You can pick anyone, from any time period, and from any place. List your reasons for admiring the said person.
My favorite is my Nickname.

Funny you should pick Ghengis Khan! I love Mongol history! Yes, he did do a lot of impossible things, especially that his empire streatched from China to the Danube.

I once said to a friend, that the Roman Empire was the most powerful, but the Mongol Empire was the largest.

Robert the Bruce is one of my favorite historical figures too! I watched an edited version of Braveheart on TNT, and it gave me a new understanding of Robert. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him. Did you know that Bruce Wayne (Batman) was named in honor of him? The "Wayne" part was named in honor of Mad Anthony Wayne, a Revoloutionary War hero.

I know he's not mideavil, but I'd have to say George Washington. He had to fight a war with a rag-tag army against well trained British troops. He had to play politics with congress, while trying to fight a war. Time and time again the war was almost lost, but he'd win a battle that would rally the spirit of America. It was a constant battle just to keep people enlisting; the night he crossed the Delaware was a battle fought mainly to keep people re-enlisting. If you look at american wars from the 20th century and on, getting supplies was not a problem. Sometimes they ran a little short, but they almost always had what they needed; for the generals, supplies wasn't something they fretted over daily. Not Washington; it was a constant struggle to keep his army fed and clothed. His strategy was to trade space for time; which is what Lee wanted to do during the Civil war, but couldn't. After the war was fought, he put in tons of time and effort into the founding of our country. Someone asked if he would be king; he said that the last thing we needed was another king George. He turned down divine rule, in order to set up the system of checks and balances that we have today! He would go on to serve two terms, living in New York City. He only got to live in his beautiful home, Mount Vernon (and 8 thousand acres), for about eight years.(He wrote letters to the mason building it, Sund Washington, during the war. He wanted his house built just the way he wanted it! If you ever get the chance to go to Mt. Vernon, go there! It's awesome). Many men have put years of service to the U.S.A, but I feel that George Washington has put in the most. At that critical time of our nation's history, we needed someone like him and he stepped forward. He is definetly one to be admired.

Oh, it dosen't have to be medieval. Sorry, I should have made it clearer. Yeah, GW was a really respectable man, and a great leader. I never tire of hearing stories about the great Washington. I am probably going to write a book report on his biography in school this year, wish me luck.

I agree the George Washington was a good inspirational politaical figure and yes he would lose some battles and win some. However, in a nuttshell, the only reason America won indepedence was because of the French's help. The French were hostile towards the English at the time and America was in deep trouble, so they pleaded for help from the French and the French gave it to them. If it was not for the French America may still be under British rule or it could have been granted independence in the 20th Century when most British colonies were becoming independent.

Th French played a very key role in the American Revolution. We probably couldn't have dragged the war on much longer, and if it wasn't for their navy, Yorktown wouldn't have been a victory. Another fellow who was in the right pace at the right time was Ben Franklin, our ambassador to France. The French also contributed vast amounts of funding to our war chest, which was
desperatly needed. Unfortunetly that was one of the reasons that France had a revolution almost as soon as ours ended. I believe we payed our debt to France later on, during the world wars.

Huh... actually, I would probably say the same thing, as weird as it sounds...
...NO! Not YOU from ten years ago -- ME!

I was so innocent...
Seriously though, I think my favourite historical person would be Georg Cantor, the mathematician who founded set theory. He was ridiculed at first, when he introduced his ideas about infinity, but now his work are a foundation of modern mathematics. Wait, it doesn't need to be a military/political leader, does it? If it does, then maybe George Washington. And I do not even know enough about medieval leaders to have a favourite one...

Nope, doesn't need to be military/political, just anyone from the past.

I enjoy reading this topic!

a continued list would include any famous war-leader before or during wwii
also, though he won't be historical until a few years, Jhon Hodgeman because he wrote an almanac of complete world knowledge
(think I'm joking? it's called the areas of my expertice and the continuation is more information than you require just remember he's joking not me!)
