What do you think is the worst LEGO Castle set before 1990?

Post by Sir Terrance »

Now here is a tough one. Seeing todays sets, everything before then is like gold. I would have to say 1974. What do you think?

The Smuggler's Hayride? But it comes with both a peasant and a pitchfork. What more could you ask for?

Worst?

That's like asking who the 'poorest' billionaire is, or who the 'dumbest' genius is. It boggles the mind. And whatever we choose, it will likely beat any 2004 set hands down.

But before I try and make a choice, I wanna know something: is this just Castle, or is it all Lego?

Either the title, or the forum its in seems to be misleading.

What is misleading? It is asking a simple question what is the worst set produced before 1990? Simple enough question, but a tough question to answer. It may be in the wrong forum if it is not meant to be just about castle sets.

As to the question, I would have to say my least favorite set pre-1990 would have to be: 6016 Knight's Arsenal. I really don't like the hoses used in the cart. I didn't like them in white in the 6049 Viking Voyager, but that set had enough pluses to make it a great set nonetheless. This set is basically some weapons, a fig and a horse. The rest is not that great. I'd still give it a 7/10 by today's standards, but I would have given it a 4/10 back then. So question asked, question answered, I don't think I was mislead in any way as long as the forum question "meant" castle sets.

I changed the worst LEGO set to worst LEGO castle set in the title. This forum is for castle set discussion. If the thread was meant to be any lego set, please start a new topic in the General Lego forum. Thanks

More on topic:

I completely agree with Will. 6016 Knight's Arsenal was my least favorite set. The hoses, blue boat base, lack of weapons (although the hatchets are nice), and the new hitching that didnt rotate were all reasons that I didnt like this set. Plus my relatives gave me multiple copies of it :?

Hello!

Hehehe, my first thought when reading the question also was: 6016. Its design is too weak, even the two axes weren't able to strengthen it.

That looks like..... jackstone's grandparents!

But ontopic:

I was only 3 in 1990, so I never actually knew these sets in their heyday. The only Castle sets from the 80s that I own are the Legends, so I guess that you can't even count them.

But from what I can see, 6016 is a pretty good contender.

I just wish I owned one.

Yes, I meant castle sets. I didn't specify since I had it in the LEGO Castle forum. Sorry for any confusion.

Without taking the time to go and look at all of the old castle sets, I'm going to go with 6016 - Knight's Arsenal as well. It was pretty weak compared to the 1984 and 1985 carts.

I thought Smuggler's Hayride was pretty neat, but Crusader's Cart was the the better of the two forestmen carts. (though it's name makes no sense.)

Well for me I guess it would have to be a close run between 6011 and the fav. choice of everybody 6016. 6016 will win cause 6011 at least had the Lt Gray Chest.

I'd have to agree that 6016 was the worst castle set before 1990.

http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6016

However, it includes a horse and a minifig equipped with a shield, so it is still an excellent set. In fact, I own a copy of 6016 from an e-bay lot that came with it. If Lego re-released this set today at the original retail price, I would definitely a couple of copies.

6016 was one of the few pre-1990 sets that I owned at one point or another, and I still love it. I don't think I could decide what the worst set is.

The Knight's Arsenal is under $5... which is a far cry from
what prices are now.

Today, sadly, this set would be $15.... or at least $10.

Yeah, the elements included aren't the best, but as far
as generics go, this set rocks.

It was at most $3 when it was new. Maybe $2.50 even. If they tried selling it for more than $4 or $5 today, there is no chance that I would ever buy it. We have not had that much inflation.

In 1984 King's Castle 6080 was about €50 (DM 100 then) with 664 elements, 12 figures, no useless scorpions. In 2004 the Castle of Morcia 8781 is €99 (632 elements, 8 figures). That's quite an inflation.
