I'm framing this one.

On one of my unsuccessful trips to Toys R Us looking for Series 3 minifigs, I saw this guy in a box by one of the registers. I took him over to the price scanner.

$0.01.

I thought - "Well then..." and headed over to the registers to check out.

My son handed the bag to the cashier, who scanned it. He nearly put it in the bag when he looked at the price on his screen. He stared at it a bit, looked at the bag, and looked at the screen again.

"One penny," he said.

I reached in my pocket, paid, and left. I think I may have to frame this receipt.

Nice!

I'll take 100 at that price...

What a steal!

The TRU in my area only had the fire chief. I'm not sure of his price though. Probably should have picked him up!

Awesome! If they weren't Chinese figs, I'd be all over that! Black Falcons are one of the best classic factions anyway-- and only a penny? Cool.

We once were lucky enough to get invited to a LEGO sale in Enfield where IIRC, most merchandise was between 75%-95% off MSRP-- it was awesome. Anyway, at the time we paid very little attention to the price of any one item, we just kept piling it on, literally until our cars couldn't fit any more.

However, when all was said and done, we went through our receipts, and it turned out that one person actually was charged $0.00 for one particular set! I forget which it was (it was something tiny), but obviously the percentage markdown was so high that the computer rounded it down to zilch!

Nice one, Tony!

But better make a photocopy of that receipt. Those receipt ink seems to fade after a few months....

Wow! That's amazing! They (TRU) must have messed up pretty badly at one point of another for that price to show up. It's too bad their weren't more of them, imagine a 100 black falcons for $1.00! Did you actually pay with a penny? That would be cool and it would indeed be a, "lucky" penny.

That is because these guys were a promo and our system at TRU needs to keep track of them (scan etc.) but they cannot have a 0 value. How it works is when the promo specs are reached it 0's out the .01. To be fair most stores do not sell them at all as few were left after bricktober ended. Some stores made up their own promo to get the few remaining gone. My guess is your TRU rep just had no idea as most the reps do not work in pricing and such. We had a dozen or so at the end of the sale and gave them away.... sadly I did not get a one, but I figure the kids that got them will be happy so that works.

Wish I had gotten a few of them but good find Tony!

I'll second that, I've seen ink on those receipts fade after a while. Seems you had some LEGO luck this Christmas. The best find I've had at TRU is finding a 6103 Castle Mini Figures (released in 1988) in 1997.

Thank you Heir for clarifying. You explain things well and I can see what you're saying. But you have to admit its a, "lucky" penny indeed. (My quote button isn't working so thats why I formatted the post this way.) TRU is also more complicated than I ever imagined.
