[News] Official PotC Set News!

Post by Azaghal »

I'm a bit surprised there's not a thread for this already, since it broke on Brothers Brick:

http://www.mtv.com/photos/thumbnails.jh ... view=thumb

My thoughts, reposted from ForbiddenCove:

Stuff I like: Everything I guessed right, tan versions of classic minifig parts, new headgear (especially the one Penelope Cruz's character is wearing in the QER set), scabbards, short bones (cannibal's hair), the globe, the reuse of the Musketeer Hat and the new Redcoat torso, the new Redcoat Admiral torso, the Reddish-Brown horse (first ever?), mermaids, new longer wood-grain tiles, black boats. :D

Stuff I dislike: the single representative of Davy Jones' crew (the shellhead guy? Really?), Undead Jack (looks thrown together), Blackbeard's sword, and the fact that I won't have the funds to buy all of these. :(

Hmm...I would love to have a couple of what appear to be whiskey bottles, and I want a TON of the gold bars.
Hopefully they show up soon on Bricklink. Thanks for showing those!

I'm guessing that these pics can now be called officially released.

The sets are looking great and have so many pieces that can be used in building castles. London escape, Whitecap bay and the Mill almost look like castle civilian sets as they are.
I like the new buckets with handles, the new windows [london escape] wine bottles, blue feather and new figure parts especially the Elizabeth Swan fig.. give her yellow hands and head and shes a new village maiden. I want to try Blackbeards beard on some rampaging dwarves. :D
So many new possibilities

I'm going to have to get them all.

Baldrics! In three colors (brown, black & white). Hopefully Ms Swan has no flesh coloring on her torso. I wonder if the lit/smoking beard bits for Blackbeard are attached to the hat or the beard.

These are looking really good! First theme in a while I've wanted to acquire the majority of--I'd better start saving for it now.

Take a look at that treasure chest in the Mill set. Is that a heart?!

Since the beard of Blackbeard appears to be a re-use of the dwarf beard from Castle Fantasy Era, I believe the burning wicks piece attaches between the head and hat. Something like BrickForge's Gladiator Mask.

Doesn't appear to be one of the dwarf beards to me:

But I do hope you are right about the wicks attaching to the hat. I would really love to reuse that beard, minus the wicks.

These look like really nice sets. Thanks for posting. Definitely tons of parts to keep castle-heads happy. I still don't get why the new skeletons have black, square feet. One interesting new part looks like a window-shutter for the round topped windows in the London Escape set.

I'm not always a fan of pirates or licensed themes, but these sets are just breathtaking.

I love that they are starting to incorporate more advanced building/decoration techniques into sets like The Mill and Whitecap bay.

Absolutely several sets here that will make Castle fans happy, and wonderful new pieces like the globe and gold bar.
P.S. If you need help making MOCs, making posts, or don't know what to do next, please, let me know! I'm here to help! ;)

I'll just re-post what I posted on the Forbidden Cove, since I don't want to retype that long post...
Isla De Muerta. Barbosa (both of them) are cool, especially the hat. (Yes, I know it is the musketeer hat). The new Ninjago skelly legs looks good on Skelly Barbosa. Really adds to the look of him still having clothes. I love that they both have the new scabbard piece. I hope hatless Jack has a reversible head (Not that I’ll have a shortage of him…) Elizabeth is nice. Can’t think of more to say then that. GOLD BAR! Nice parts. Lots of bley and gold. Looks like new coins.

The Mill. Not to sure what to think on this. The figs are excellent. (Espially the new scabbard!) Norrington is pretty sweet, Jack is a hatless Jack, and Will is pretty cool (New hair piece, and all) The actual set is nice, but nothing spectacular. Looks like the Troll Battle Wheel hit a building and lost a wheel. Oh, and the shellfish dude. Meh. (I was never to high on Davey Jones’ crew)

Cannibal Escape. Hatless jack, but has the cool face. Will is there as well, but the two islanders are easily cooler. Bone cage is pretty cool. Could be rounder, but then we probably would have less of those bones. The throne is nice, the campfire okay, but the hut is pretty cool. Lots of brown and some plant pieces.

Okay, now for the 4th movie sets… Smallest to Largest (Roughly)

Captain’s Cabin. Another hatless Jack (I prefer the one with the hat), and the two other pirates are sweet. Easily the best parts are the BOTTLES!!!!!! I cannot say how much I love those BOTTLES!!!! The globe is a close second. The bones pieces add much detail, and the map on the tables looks pretty cool.

Aqua de Vida. Why isn’t it called Fountain of Youth? The figs are the only thing worth getting here. The fountain, while some nice pieces, is a pretty meh design. Barbosa (If the preview is to be believed) is SWEET! That hat is SO COOL! The torso is nice too, and I’m glad there is no peach printing on it. Jack is hatless. (We are 0 for 5 now…) Blackbeard is interesting. Not to sure about his sword, but I’ll withhold judgement until I actually get it.

Whitcap Bay. I LOVE this set! Unlike most of the other above sets, this one is designed BEAUTIFUALLY! I absolutely LOVE it! I have no idea what it looks like in the movie, but with a set this good… The set has such an imposing look to it. The design is absolutely perfect! And all the new(ish) pieces! The big barrel (I always wanted a brown one), the black boats, and the buckets(!) are all awesome. And I can’t forget the figs! Jack has a hat! (1 for 6 now) He looks so much better with a hat. He will easily be the Jack ringleader. The other (Random?) pirates are all designed very nicely as well. What a perfect set! (Oh, and the mermaids. Meh)

London Escape. Like Whitcap Bay, it has a beautiful design. I spy new shutter pieces, which will come in handy, I am sure. Lots of bley bricks, too. The carriage is okay, but the parts are the best part. I see that it has those new PoP arches in black, which is sweet. The other cart is quite nicely designed. Two horses is also a plus. Quite a nice selection of figs. Jack with a hat (2 for 7 now), and the two Civilian-type people are the first of their kind (I think) in a pirate set. I’m glad the Imperial-type dudes use the old torso (in one case) and the other torso is totally sweet! A proper admiral for the Imperials! Interesting pieces include BOTTLES and a printed (Or stickered) 2x2 tile of a ship. And the new shutters… Can’t forget the bucket!

Queen Anne’s Revenge. A rather different style of ship then what we have been used to. Three masts for starters, and only one has rigging. It looks like 6 cannon ports on each side, but only 3 cannons. TLC cheaped out. A couple of them look like they can’t have cannons, so this would be up with the Skulls Eye Schooner and 10210 as the most well armed ship. Love all the skulls on the stern. The stern itself seems a bit tall, but pictures of the ship seem to make it quite tall. The amount of sails is almost a dream come true. It looks like it could be the fastest (large) ship made by TLC. The rudder actually looks big enough for the ship. I was most annoyed by 10210 having a small rudder. And the figs. Jack with a hat (3 for 8. Why is it all the big sets have him with the hat?) and cool looking face. A tan small plume (Too bad they don’t come on the wheel anymore) and a tan tricorn = totally awesome. The girl is going to be highly sought after, just as guess. Blackbeard, see Aqua de Vida. The last four, while nothing spectacular (except the tan tricorn!) are pretty good.

Okay, I am done……

You forgot to add the 4 sailors were Zombies :twitch: in the "Queen Annes Revenge" set and that the White Cap Bay light house falls over and the bottles in the Captians cabin set had ships printed on them and the set comes with 2 zombies and Jack in the Isla De Muerta set has a turn around skull face.

Agreed, that's a nice new part that will hopefully show up in other sets this year. In addition to being a shutter, that would make a great gate for a microscale castle.

These sets do look really sweet. I don't actually buy that much LEGO for myself these days (mostly for the kids), so I'll probably limit myself to getting the small captains cabin set to get a Jack, plus that globe is great (also the other figs, the bones, the map, the bottles, the scabbard).

Great shot of it here looks like the baldric will fit a normal Castle broadsword and perhaps great sword!:

Hey guys,

This may be old news, but I hadn't seen all of these pictures. Grogall has good pics of all of the PotC sets, including box art:

Image Image etc.

Also, Lego.com has put up the start of their PotC site. Just a few character bios up there now and cartoons of their figs. I'm guessing that the rest of the characters will be filled in in the days to come.
