Mage's Hut

Post by Remyth »

Hey folks! A castle-y MOC I've had sitting around for a little while and just got around to photographing.

Nice looking hut, I like your roof and SNOT walls, the windows are really cool too. Keep up the good work.

This is a nice little scene. The landscape is a bit spartan, but the shape is quite attractive. The building is clean looking and quite well-built. The roof looks good but could benefit from a slight slant. As it currently stands, the large flat roof looks a bit odd. I like the way you've framed the windows and doors. It gives the building character and helps the windows stand out from the texture of the structure.

Good stuff.

The landscape is actually sparse to a reason: I didn't want much of anything round in the MOC, which plants are. I also wanted the hut to stand out both in height (so no trees or bushes) and color (so no rocks). As to the roof, I tried a slanted roof and for some reason I personally like the flat roof better (even though it is a bit odd). I guess it just makes the MOC more unique for me.

Thanks all!

Very cool texturing, especially with the window and door frames. I also like the general atmosphere of the MOC and the wizard being greeted by his wife(?). I too think the roof looks a bit odd. Have you tried simply making the brown tiles step up by one plate at a time as they get closer to the center of the roof?

The landscaping is simple yet effective for your stated purposes. I too, really like the texturing on the hut. The pig pen is also very simple, but really adds to the atmosphere. Overall, the complex hut mixed with the simple surroundings makes for a beautiful moc. Good job!
You would rather be building right now.

That landscaping and irregular base is a great addition to the simplistic yet very well done cottage. I love that brickwork on the stone.

Hey Thomas,

Great work! I really like the stonework, and also the eaves of the roof.

This is, by the way, really cool and I shall have a sad if I don't see this in person in October.

Eek! Would it be OK it I build a new base for it? (because I kinda already took apart the other one for pieces...) But thanks Caylin, and I shall bring at least the hut itself to BrickCon! and thanks for blogging it... haha

And thanks to everyone else! I'm glad you all liked it!

Cheers!

I second the notion. Make it base 8-ey and bring it along. But I really do like the unconventional base.

Looks great. I really like how it looks lick laid brick for the building's exterior. Wish it had some grass or a little more landscaping, but I like it none the less.

To me it looks more like a normal peasant hut than a mage hut. Yet, it could be a blessing to keep people from pestering the Mage too much if it looks more commonplace. As far as the technique involved, I like the walls and the "grass." The doors and window are great as well. Nice Job.
