POST 3: BACKGROUND, HISTORY AND LORE
* INTRODUCTION *
Lands of Classic Castle is a MOC-based fantasy world called Roawia which is populated by the members of the Classic Castle forums. The world is broken up into four factions: Garheim in the arctic north, Lenfald in the forests of the northwest, Loreos in the central desert and grasslands, and the Outlaws who are scattered throughout the land, but are more concentrated in the southern mountains and swamps.
Each participant creates a character who will represent them in the game. This character can be anyone; a merchant, a power-hungry baron, or a simple farmer. Once you've decided on your in-game persona, you can build MOCs that help to tell his/her story. You can also build MOCs that will help increase your status in the kingdom as well as your faction's standing. This occurs through various contests and challenges, described further down. Choose your faction wisely, and work together to make yours the most powerful in the land!
* MAP *
We are currently working with this map draft:

* FACTIONS *
PROVINCE OF GARHEIM
In the north stand the snow-covered mountain the Garhim call home. It is a desolate and barren home, but to the hard-working and honorable Garhims an easy life is no life at all, and with stone for their castles and fish for their mouths, the land provides everything they need.
Creations in this faction should have an "old nordic" feel to them. Stone is plentiful, but wood is scarce and valuable. Due to their difficult terrain, this faction values speed and manoeuvrability and has a strong focus on light infantry.
- Demonym: Garhim (plural: Garhims).
- Colors (primary/secondary): Dark blue/blue.
- Terrain: Mountainous/harsh/sub-arctic.
- Building style/materials: Small fortifications, stone.
- Natural resources: Stone, metal, fish.
- Economy: Mining, fishing.
- Army: Light infantry.
- Navy: Small vessels.
- LEGO sigils: Black Falcons, Crown Knights.
- Faction Overseer: .
PROVINCE OF LENFALD
Between Garheim and Loreos lies the Province of Lenfald, with its rich grasslands and deep forests. Valuing grace and style, the Lenfels prefer to live, hunt and fight with elegance - often using a longbow for all three.
Lenfald has an excellent supply of wood as well as stone. Their castles are often stone and wood combinations, and they utilize wooden siege weapons as well as large ships. If you want to build in a typical "medieval England" style, Lenfald is your faction.
- Demonym: Lenfel (plural: Lenfels).
- Colors (primary/secondary): Dark green/yellow.
- Terrain: Forest/foothills.
- Building style/materials: Medium sized castles, wood and stone.
- Natural resources: Wood, wildlife.
- Economy: Lumber, hunting.
- Army: Archers, light cavalry.
- Navy: Large war- and tradingships.
- LEGO sigils: Forestmen, Kingdoms Dragons.
- Faction Overseer: .
PROVINCE OF LOREOS
From the arid desert in the west to the grassland in the east, Loreos dominates most of central Roawia. The proud and traditional Loreesi are unrivaled in their ability to harness the power of horses, a tradition passed on and honed to perfection through generations.
Due to the harsh conditions and flat land, castles in Loreos are mostly larger constructions of sandstone and mortar. Creations in this faction should be inspired by real world old Middle East and Southern Europe.
- Demonym: Loreesi (plural: Loreesi).
- Colors (primary/secondary): Red/gold.
- Terrain: Grasslands/desert.
- Building style/materials: Large castles, sandstone.
- Natural resources: Fertile land (some areas).
- Economy: Livestock, horses, agriculture.
- Army: Heavy cavalry.
- Navy: Medium sized ships.
- LEGO sigils: Crusaders, Kingdoms Lions.
- Faction Overseer: .
OUTLAWS
Not a united faction but rather a term for anyone not part of any of the three Provinces, the Outlaws consist on innumerable groups, clans and tribes of thieves, bandits, rebels and other outcasts as well as those openly practicing magic and beings of magic origins. Outlaws are found all over Roawia, but they are said to gather in the unclaimed southern lands, especially the mountain area called The Shade and the Magic Island in the east sea.
The Outlaws' style in building as well as combat varies, somewhat depending on their location. If you want to build fantasy elements like magicians, orcs and dragons, or just a gang of good old fashioned bandits, you should choose this faction.
- Colors (primary/secondary): Black/varied.
- Building style/materials: Crude, varied.
- Natural resources: Varied.
- Economy: Theft, magic.
- Army: Footsoldiers, magic.
- Navy: Varied.
- LEGO sigils: Wolfpack, Fright Knights, Skeletons, Trolls, or any other unassigned faction sigil.
- Faction Overseer: .
THE KING'S COUNCIL
The King is a non-player character who will provide a central authority in-game by which challenges and contests are issued. The King and his council are not controlled by any one person, but rather a delegation of representatives from each faction, who together will come up with contests, challenges, and major storyline developments. This faction is not open for builders.
- Area: Unknown
- LEGO sigil: Royal Knights.
* BUILDING *
OFFICIAL LEGO FACTIONS AND SIGILS
The use of official LEGO factions is all about sigils. For example, Kingdoms Lions are assigned to Loreos. This means all LEGO pieces (usually torsos and shields) with the Kingdoms Lions sigil (a lion) belong to Loreos. You do not have to use the official Kingdoms Lions (in fact, making up your own figures is encouraged), and a Kingdoms Lion piece without the sigil (like the gray chainmail torso) can be used for any faction.
Not all your figures have to carry an official sigil either; you can create custom sigils or leave your men without a sigil alltogether. The important thing here is to color-coordinate: Mix and match parts to fit the colors of your faction.
"Protected" official LEGO factions are: Black Falcons (Garheim), Crown Knights (Garheim), Forestmen (Lenfald), Kingdoms Dragons (Lenfald), Crusaders (Loreos), Kingdoms Lions (Loreos), Royal Knights (King's Council).
BANNERS
Each faction has two colors which are to be displayed in your MOCs, signifying your alliance to your faction. These colors can be displayed in multiple ways, either on a basic flagstaff (on the left) or on a faction standard (on the right). Displaying both colors is highly preferable, but if you do not own both, or if your MOC does not easily accomodate either a double flag or the official standard, you may fly a single flag on a standard flagpole.
Note: Faction colors has to be the exact colors listed in the faction summaries. If you are unsure about banner colors, here are some example banners:
Garheim, Lenfald, Loreos, Outlaws (for Outlaws the secondary color (gold in this picture) can be anything).
BUILDING IN YOUR FACTION
Building within your faction is strongly encouraged, but not required. Everyone will want to build something different than their faction style, on occasion, and this is encouraged as long as you try to tie the MOC to your character in some way. Examples could include "scouts in enemy territory", "attending a celebration in another land", or "embarking on a quest far from home". The main idea is to have fun with your MOCs, but try to contribute to your Faction's story at the same time.
* ADMINISTRATIVE ROLES *
FACTION OVERSEER (FO)
An FO is basically a faction administrator. FOs will get together periodically to discuss game development and host global contests through which the storyline is progressed. Working with their fellow FOs ensures that a cohesive vision is implemented in the development of the project. Individually, FOs host regional contests of their own choosing. Other members of the faction may also host contests or challenges with permission from the FO.
Faction Overseers are chosen by the faction members. Being an FO involves a lot of work and will take a lot of your time - make sure you know what you are getting into before applying to be an FO.
FACTION LIAISON (FL)
A Faction Liaison is an assistant to the FO. Faction Overseers can task their FLs with keeping track of scoring, hosting a challenge, or other related tasks. The Faction Liaison is chosen by the Faction Overseer.
GUILD MASTER
The Guild Master is in charge of guilds, keeping track of entries, ranks and titles.
* SCORING AND STATUS POINTS *
There are two scoring systems in LCC: Global and personal.
GLOBAL STATUS POINTS
Global status points are applied to your faction as a result of member participation in global building challenges. This scoring is used to build up your faction's status in Roawia.
PERSONAL STATUS POINTS
Personal status points are how you'll gain titles and status within your faction. You'll gain personal status by participating in global challenges, local challenges, and guild challenges.
GLOBAL CHALLENGES
Faction Overseers will communicate on a regular basis to come up with a global building challenge approximately once every other month. These contests normally should progress the storyline of the LCC in some way, but are not required to do so.
Each member of a faction will be allowed to submit one entry, which will score participation points for his/her region and for him-/herself, assuming any/all qualifying criteria are met. Depending on participation, the top 2-3 entries from each region will be selected by the Faction Overseer of that region for submission into the final round of judging. Once selected, the finalists will be placed into a public poll on the main CC forum for a community vote. Anyone can vote, even those who are not active in LCC. The overall winner will score bonus points for him-/herself and for his/her faction.
LOCAL CHALLENGES
Up to two times per month, the Faction Overseer can arrange a challenge for his faction. Local challenges will not progress the overall storyline of the game. Keeping track of scoring is ultimately the responsibility of the Overseers, but they can enlist someone to help them keep track of it if they wish. With the permission of the FO, the responsibility of hosting and judging a local challenge may be turned over to a member. The host of a local challenge may build an entry, but is not eligible to win.
FREE BUILDS
All members are allowed up to two free builds per month.

* HONORARY TITLES *
Building up your personal status score will earn you a new title which can be displayed in your CC signature block. The titles do not currently grant you any in-game power, but are a sign of prestige in your faction. Once you have reached a certain rank, you may display it in your forum signature using one of these banners. (Trouble displaying banners? See the FAQ below.)
"Peasant" - Score of less than 15
"Citizen" - Score from 15-49
"Militia" - Score from 50-99
"Freeman" - Score from 100-149
"Soldier" - Score from 150-199
"Captain" - Score from 200-249
"Knight" - Score from 250-299
"Noble" - Score from 300-399
"Baron" - Score from 400-499
"Prince" - Score from 500-599

* GUILDS *
Guilds are exclusive clubs by which you'll gain entrance by completing a specific set of tasks. Once you gain membership, you are permitted to display guild heraldry in your MOCs. There are three ranks within each guild: Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master. You will increase in rank as you complete the tasks necessary to gain enough experience to progress.
Note: You may only be active in TWO guilds in a time that you have not achieved a rank of "Master" in. For example, you can start out in the Heroes and Masons guilds, but you cannot start to qualify for either of the two remaining guilds until you have reached the rank of "Master" in either the Heroes or Masons guild.
The guilds are: Heroes Guild, Masons Guild, Merchants Guild, Mages Guild.
Read more about Guilds in the guild thread.
* CHARACTER INTRODUCTION CHALLENGE *
When you are ready to join LCC and have (after giving it a lot of thought) figured out which faction you want to join as well as who your character is going to be, the first thing you should do is create an entry for the Character Introduction Challenge. This is where you introduce your character with a MOC and a description of who he/she is. You are not officially a part of LCC (and not eligble for points in other contests and challenges) until you have completed the CIC. This challenge is ever-going - it does not have a deadline - and completing it will earn you 5 personal points.
