Your favorite faction, and why?

Postby Dragon Master » Sun Nov 23, 2003 7:20 pm

What is your favorite offical lego faction, and why is it so.

Me? I like the Dragon Masters. I like them for two resons. One is becuase they were the first sets I bought, and they made a lasting impression. I had one Black Knights and one Wolfpack set before, but the ones I rember most were the DM.

I like the DM style. They look rugged and weathered. There buildings aren't pretty Cinderela stuff *cough*knights kigdom*cough*, but made in the mountains. I loved all the figs, although there were only 4 different guys. I just pretend all those guys are cousins or something. I like the red and yellow colors, they go good together. And with Majstio and the Dragons, how could you go wrong?

Thats why I like them, now tell me why do you like your favorite faction most.

A good topic.

My favorite? Oh what a hard choice.. I really like the Black Falcons, Forestmen and Wolf Pack.

Black Falcons because I like the blue-and black colors, and their shield emblem is very cool. Plus the BFF is a very unique castle with alot of character to it.

WolfPack because they seem like anarchists to me - living on the edge of society because they choose to. Again, they've got a cool emblem.

But my fav has got to be the Forestmen. I loved the Robin Hood myth growing up, and I saw the forrestmen as the most nobel of factions. They left normal society in protest, and now 'rob from the rich and give to the poor' in an effort to subvert the tyrannical Crusader rule.

Plus, I also like their shield emblems and love their leather/cloth outfits. It takes a true warrior to be able to go without armor and know you'll pull through.

My favorite are the Forestmen. They hug trees, and so do I.

DM - My favorite faction is the crusaders for a similar reason to yours - They were some of my first sets and they made a lasting impression. My favorite knight was the guy in the yellow castle that had the red shield with the cross on it. For years he was a paladin, but alas - 1 guy is not enough for a faction. When the crusaders came out, it was BANG - theres my army... :D

My favorite is the Black Falcons followed by the Lion Knights/Crusaders

While I did have two Dragon Master sets growing up, it was only a year ago that I truly "discovered" castle. The Black Falcons and Lion Knights go well together and present two opposing factions to go at each others throats. :D
I tend to favor the Black Falcons mainly because the simply "look cool" and they are the only ones in my collection who have a full sized castle (thus far).

Thanks for bringing this topic up DM. :D

Cheers

My first Lego castle product was "the yellow castle" back when I was 7 in 1978. My favourite faction was for years the blue figs with crown on purple backround, for obvious reasons. For me it is a tossup between Black Falcons for their stylish unforms and intimidating emblem and Forestmen for their resourcefulness and as Lenny mentioned, "the Robin Hood factor"! :)

I think we may have done this in a poll at some point, but my favorite faction is the Black Falsons, followed closely by the Yellow Castle(375), Knight's Procession(677) and Knight's Tournament(383) classics line of figs. The Crusaders and Forestmen/Dark Forest are a close tie for third place, Royal Knights is fourth, Wolfpack is fifth, Knights Kindom is sixth, Black Knights is Seventh and the Dragon Masters and Fright Knights are tied for last place. Dragon Masters might have scored better, but they were the heralds of my second dark ages. Fright Knights just had few redeeming qualities with the exception of a few of the fig torsos and the horse blanket.

Oh, why? The Knight's Castle 6073 has been my very first bigger castle. And there is no second chance for the first impression :-) Also I like their colour scheme (blue-black, sable-argent), and their Catapult. And they have been the less powerfull faction, and I always go with the underdog.

My favorites have always been the crusaders or "King's Men" I like the realistic castles such as 6080 and their color scheme of red, blue, and gold was very appealing.

I also like other themes such as the forestmen, wolfpack, Black Falcons, and the 1978-83 sets.

Black Knights/Monarch. Although they weren't the first Castle set I ever had, they have been the most abundant in my collection and their dragon emblems as well as the dragon scale armor makes them great for either a Western or Eastern based faction.

Crusaders have always been my favorite. Firstly i love the chest emblum, and the blue lion on gold background used in their shields. It just seems like the symbol good brave knights would fight under.

Also they are almost always the underdogs. The black knights hav enumbers, the dragon masters have magic but the crusaders have only courage and right on their side.

as for bad guys i'd love to see necromancers, but the dragon masters are the baddest bad guys. the bulls had potential but didnt get properly exploited

as an asside, has anyone used hagrid as a barbarian chieftain or giant?

Whaaat?
The Crusaders always were the rich guys. They had all the big castles, all the powerfull siege engines and weapons, and more men than every other faction. They clearly are not the underdogs.

And then again, you were born when the great time of the Crusaders was over.... When they appeared only in few sets compared to the Dragon Masters and such. However, I assure you: They are not the underdogs :-)

jojo has a point. let me rephrase

in the 80's the crusaders were not the underdogs. In the 90's though things changed. crusaders had the kings mountain fortress as their main castle where as the black knights had 6086 and the dragon masters had fire breathing fortress.

Don't say one faction is bad or good. It is okay to say underdog, and overdog i guess, but not good and bad. That was the problem with the Knights Kingdom line, we were forced to know good from bad, we couldn't decide ourselves.

but the dragon masters are the baddest bad guys.

I dissagre. The Dragon Masters are different. Somewhat rugged and nomadic. I compare them to the Mongols. Does thea necessarily make them bad? No. It is a matter of presepective. To the citizens of China and Russia, the Mongols were "the devil's horsemen." But the people of Mongolia benefited from their agressive ways, thanks to leaders like Genghis Khan. I have always thought Majisto as sort of a Genghis Khan. He was actually a wise man. Not the bumbiling brute that depicts him in modern culture.

So, were DM bad. No. In fact I think it is the Wolfpack who are the agressors agaisnt the Dragon Masters.

My two cents

DM (who is nicer than you think)

P.S. Just becuase they have mean faces, doesn't mean they are evil. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Hey! The Wolfpack aren't baddies! They're just... misunderstood. They, along with the Black Falcons and Forestmen, are my favorite factions.

Looking at the LUGNET factions poll, where you had to rank the factions from 10-1 (10 being the best), these were the results:

Forestmen

7.682

Black Falcons

7.659

Dark Forest

7.455

Wolfpack

7.068

Samurai/Ninja

6.727

Classic

6.545

Black Knights

6.523

Crusaders

6.114

KK Leos

5.364

Royal Knights

5.136

Dragon Masters

4.841

KK Bulls

4.795

Fright Knights

4.273

Sorry DM, but the Dragon Masters aren't very popular on LUGNET. I don't particularly like the soldiers, but I do really like Majisto.
