Soon after leaving the inn, Holfmthor and Baldkell, donning their outlaw disguises, spotted a lone guard of the Queen on a daily patrol. This is the opportunity they had been waiting for.
“Right at the edge of town. Perfect. Baldkell, do you have the rope ready?” whispered Holmthor.
“Yes. I already tied the knot. Now all we have to do is let our little victim fall into the trap,” responded Baldkell.
The guard continued down the street, unaware of the trap that lay before him. Before he knew it, the guard found himself hanging upside down from the sign of the nearby blacksmith shop, dangling by the very rope that Baldkell had just tied.
“Auugh!?! What is this…put me down!” screamed the guard.A moment later a blade went to his throat.
“If you want to live, you’ll answer the following questions quickly and quietly,” Holmthor demanded in a threatening voice.
“Who are you guys? I’ve never seen outlaws like you around these parts…” the soldier started.
“That’s none of your concern, nor is it your business. Now shut up and listen!” Holmthor spat as he tightened the blade around his throat. “Now, answer me this: where is your base of operations located?”
“I’m-m afraid I c-can’t tell you that. Is there any way you c-could release your blade from m-my throat?”
“Not unless you answer the question, you piece of filth.”
This continued for some time as Jørn and Freyvir listened on. Eventually, Holmthor and Baldkell were able to obtain an idea as to where the Queen’s troops were mobilizing from in the local area.
“Good work you two,” Jørn said to Holmthor and Baldkell. “Now all we need to do is figure out how to stop this threat before it becomes too powerful...“
Jørn glanced over at the blacksmith shop’s sign where the soldier of the Queen had previously hung.
“…and to do that we’ll need weapons. It’s time to organize a counter-offensive.”
With that, Jørn and his men made their way back into town towards the inn.
“Holmthor, what did you ever do with that guard you had hanging from that sign?” asked Jørn.
“Ah, that. We told him to fear the eternal wrath of our clan, the Black Talon. Fortunately for him, no such clan exists.”
“Holmthor, your sense of humor never ceases to amuse me. He’ll have more than the “Black Talon” to worry about in coming days…”
