It's a creator set we weren't going to get more than 3-4 figs. Creator sets aren't about the figs it's about the builds. I know it's not everyones cup of tea. I'm just happy to see castle sets. Hopefully lego sees how well the blacksmith and hopefully this set will sell and see castle is still popular enough to warrant a full wave or 2.

Yeah, I heard a funny review about one of the castle sets that got 10,000 supporter's on Lego Ideas. Here's a link:
https://www.brickfanatics.com/listen-up-lego ... re-castle/

It's funny how it says "Plus, this latest castle took less than two months to reach the required 10,000 votes to advance to the review stage. Add it all up, and the message from fans is clear: more LEGO Castle, please." And "The call for the return of Classic Castle is growing ever more deafening, with yet another medieval fortress reaching 10,000 votes on LEGO Ideas."

The set is better built/designed than I thought it would be. For me it is mostly about the parts, so...

I welcome all of the castley stuff. BFs, swords, shields, armor, helmets, etc. Most of the parts I have in my collection have come from past castle sets. So... some interesting parts included in this set that will add more variety my collection... The olive and dark green slopes are very useful for landscaping and not very common. I do not think I have any targets like the one in the set. The Nexo knight shields in light bley will be useful. The dark blue roofs are nice for crownie mocs. The pyramid shaped 1x1s in reddish brown. I could use tons of these.

The set actually does have a decent number of wall panels. They are just the smaller solid ones not the large ones with windows. I like this better than past castle sets, since window openings at ground level kind of defeat the purpose of castle walls completely. These are also more useful to me since I only use the windowed panels as filler inside of landscaping. I do not like how I can see through the corners of the towers to the gatehouse where the 1x1 rounds meet the dark bley panels.

The best part in my humble opinion... The rounded windows for the water wheel, and used as windows on top of the tall tower in model 2. These are brand new in reddish brown, only being available in white up until now. These will be very very valuable if not used in other/cheaper sets. I have not had the chance to use this part yet. I notice lattice pieces put into these windows on the tower, but I can't see it clearly. I am also old... I assume the flat lattice pieces from the gatehouse windows fit into the curved window? Does anyone know?

Edit... Yes those flat square lattice pieces fit into the curved window.

The final new part, that I noticed, is the civilian minifig. The civilian was the only part of this entire set I was really looking forward to. Well, it is official. This is unlikely to ever get used by me. I am sad. It just screams pirate. My nephew has the complete collection of all pirate sets... so it looks like he will be getting a few of these guys to add to his collection. At least they won't sit in a box...

All in all, I would give this set 4.5 stars out of 5 for design but sadly 2.5 stars for parts. Too few castle figs, no new castle molds, no new heraldry, no animals. I guess this is what I should expect from a 3in1. But, as a castle collector in this forum, I am judging 31120 as a castle set. As a parts set for non-castle builders, I am sure it is much better.

Same here - that civilian being a new peasant mold or just reusing one of the old ones really could have taken this set to another level for Castle fans. Such a miss by Lego. Just when I think they understand what we want, they whiff on something as simple as that.

Hey all,

Once pictures show up on a store website or sets appear in stores it is no longer a "leak", so we can post photos here. So here you go. Also, I see the release date listed as June 1 in a couple of locations online, so we'll be able to get it in our hands fairly soon. First person to do so, please post more pics.

My own thoughts (mostly not original and reflecting what others have said):

My likes: I do think that this is a great set. It could sit beside any classic LEGO castle set and fit in. I absolutely love love love that every single thing is brick-built - the dragon, the birds, the mouse, the battlements, the arrow slits even the banners. There is not a single sticker, panel wall, ugly battlement piece, or any other single-use part (okay, there's a frog element). They even essentially built a BURP out of slopes. The color scheme is great and fits with classic themes (ignoring very old debates over the grey/bley color change). I love that they are once again including the updated Black Falcons. Also, and I know this is part of the whole "3-in-1" thing, but I love that there are alternative models. I know I've said this before, but I really miss the way that they used to (yes, decades ago, I'm old) put alternative models on the back of the box without instructions to encourage kids to see the set as a starting point to play and be creative, rather than just to reproduce the official model.

My dislikes (again, not very original as others have said the same). The price point - a US$100 set is not a good way to get kids into castle building but is more just to placate us old folks. The fact that this is a one-off and not a theme, again, won't get kids into castle. The lack of accessories - I see one sword, one bow, one spear, two shields, three helms, and one breastplate (maybe I'm missing something) - not much for a set of this size and price. This is not a complaint for myself, because I've got a box of plenty of accessories, but rather again for kids who might be inspired to get into castle building. The figs - yes, I said above I love the Black Falcons, but there are only two of them. Along with the Medieval Blacksmith 21325 you would have to spend US$250 to get four of these. The peasant fig is completely generic, and who wants another skelly? If they were going to limit themselves to four figs (again, seems a little light for a US$100 set), they should have gone with four of the Black Falcons - maybe change up the faces and helms, give one a cape or crown or whatever to differentiate them.

Yes, I totally understand that all of my dislikes boil down to "this is nice, but what I really want is a theme with about five sets at varying price points".

I absolutely love the set and will get it day 1. I'm not sure if I'll get more than one or not, I think the Medieval Blacksmith (ideas set) is a better value for the parts.

My only real complaint is the pirate citizen. Getting 3 minifigures in a set this size is ok and the accessories are fine. Having more Black Falcon soldiers is also nice, but after this set, I'm hoping they'll have another faction or some factionless (plain) armored torsos.

While the $100 is not small, it provides you with a very impressive castle. I think this is a great price point. It would be nice if there were other, smaller castle theme sets that might inspire kids to get into castle and would then lead them to this type of set.

From the outside, this castle looks imposing - they've done a good job with the plate-base with the moat and water wheel on two sides building up 'rocks' as part of the ground-level fortification. The 'interior' of the castle is nicely detailed.

I'm excited for the round window pieces in brown (the water wheel in the main model).

Both the B and C models look good too (and appear as though if you bought two sets, you could combine the A and B models - has anyone figured out if you can build the B and C models at the same time from one set?

I love everything about this. It's not to dull or bland and feels the most lively of a castle we've had in a long time. I personally don't mind that we only get three figs as it is a creator set. The same goes for the extra colours like blue roofs and the large banners in white and red.

Can't wait to get this. May get two.

I get what your saying in the dislikes but this is a creator 3in1 set so we weren't getting more than 3-4 figs anyway. The creator sets aren't about accessories either. Just look at the pirate set the same things apply. If you want more of the black falcons just go on lego.com to bricks and pieces section and type in the set number and you can get black falcon torso's, legs, and even the tan horse from the blacksmith shop. They are in and out of stock but in the US they usually go in stock around 10=11pm at night, more often on thursdays. I actually use bricks and pieces more than I use bricklink. The new swords are on there too. I have 10 new black falcon knights from B@P or bricks and pieces and my 11 year old has 10 falcon knights too for his collection. I'm trying to get my hands on more. B@P also has a lot of the animal moulds like the birds, cats, lion, alligator, sharks, anglerfish, etc. It really is such a useful tool. And with the 3in1 set the black falcon torso and legs should be around till late next year on B@P. I don't think the castle line will get a full fledged wave or 2 for a little while but we can hope.

I wonder if the yellow bricks are intended to be something of a tribute to the first castle set. Clearly the black falcon shields hark back to an earlier generation. And is that a vulture on the top of the tower? I really like the look of this set overall… especially the greenish-grey pieces for the bedrock foundation.

I think the yellow is just a bright color for the tutor design (more colorful than tan or white) - it contrasts well against the blue roofs and flags too (same reason the flags at the front are red). I'm assuming the big bird is a black falcon, but I could be wrong.

When I was a kid the only castles we'd get were these on the raised baseplates with a small building in each of the 4 corners, so this castle looks godly to me.

Digging the modern Black Falcons, only thing I don't like is the 'knight' who doesn't look like a knight even if you put his armour on, but that is fine as he can reasily be repurposed into a villager.

Like DaleDVM mentioned before.
The build is much much more interessting than thought before! :)

I realy loved the build ( dragon still missing - will be build today ) parts and design. I Would say it is one of my favorite catle builds of all time ( and I build nearly alle castles LEGO released - I think 1 is still missing ).

The new falcon knights are great. The build is more like a moc than a LEGO castle with big wall parts. Roundes 1x1 and green parts to add details, the loopholes are very cool - I always build them that way. The truss design used at the tower is superb. The black buildable falcon is nice, too.

The finished castle looks better than on the pictures.

To make it short: I'm a fan of it! And it will bring joy to younger castle builders who will someday join classic-castle.com 8)
