Helms Deep model finished

Post by jon_p »

Ok, so I have not been around here or posted for a while. I have been busy with CCC entries as well as finishing my helms deep model. I got round to taking pictures today.
I spent along time taking the pictures, I took almost 50! But only 27 are in the gallery - http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=85183 (should be public soon).

Here are a few deep links for now, you can change _2 to _3 etc.. up to _27.

Hope you enjoy looking through the pictures. I am actually relieved that I have got it finished now. But I hope to make some changes, to the tower and the bit around it, and also to do something with the end of the wall. So maybe I will have a version 2 soon. I am going to put all the figures in later so look out for battle pics some time in the next week.

Jon.

This looks completely awesome Jon! I realy like the bridge/I can't think of that word! It's on the tip of my tongue!

I have a question. Is that culvert/ water way big enough for a minifig to fit under. I ask because in the movie it was. I once tried to make Helms deep. I made the culvert high enough for a minifig. Just wondering if you did.

I also like the statue, Movie and book accurate!

Great job on the while thing! Cant wait to see battle pics!

Great job on the keep but the wall needs to be higher in my opinion.

No, it is not big enough for a whole minifig to fit. It is just under 2 bricks high, so about half a fig can fit. But like I said, this model isn't quite minifig scale. I just wanted to create the whole model as most versions I have seen on brickshelf are incomplete.

Please keep the criticism and comments coming, I would like to know what improvements I can make to it.

I see. Even though it's not completely Minifig scale I think it's better tha most people could do including myself.

Very, very good. I like it. I am guessing that the arches at the back of the place lead into the caves? I takle it that you didn't make the rock wall at the back?

Still, looks very good.

finaly you finished it. congratulations very much (and happy birthay too if that matters)

i really like it and i would love to see more and more of you in the future.
and pehaps you should try to make a LOTR story of your lego like Bruce Almigthy did just that your mocs are made after PJ`s movies and not the old cartoon like Bruce

I'd just like to point out, Erik, that Bruce's Lord of the Rings is not based off the cartoon, but off of the the REAL Lord of the Rings, the BOOK, the same Lord of the Rings that PJ's movie is based off of.

Not that it's a bad thing to base MOCs off of the blockbusters, I just thought I should defend Bruce's honour. I mean, if I was the one being said to be based off the cartoon, I'd be rather insulted.

This is looking real good, but I do have one comment: The postern, as shown in this picture, comes out on a spot that looks a bit too narrow for Aragorn and Gimli to have good footing to do the Dwarf-tossing( ) trick, and end up in front of the gate.

Hey Jon,

It looks awesome! I'm looking forward to the pics with the figures included.

Oh, on Peter Jackson movie versus Ralph Bakshi movie versus the books, I do have to admit that Bakshi probably influenced my visuals somewhat. I saw the cartoon movie in the theater about the same time that I first read the book, so it did influence my mental picture. For me, Frodo will always have a bowl cut and Boromir will always be a drunken Viking. But at least I know Aruman's proper name, and that it's truly Legolas who met Frodo and company east of Bree and not Arwen like that silly live-action movie. :P

I have to agree with you, Bruce. I too saw the cartoon one in the theatre about the time I first read the books and that is how I visualize the story. One nitpicking thing though. It wasn't Legolas who met them, he only did that in the cartoon version. It was actually Glorfindel. [/nitpicking] :)
