lol, I'm not sure I would have put it that way. In America, it's been commercialized, like every other holiday, so it's pretty widely known/celebrated. Mostly by scattering green and 4 leafed clovers on practically everything.

I would disagree there. I think many American's with Irish heritage celebrate that heritage on St. Patrick's day. I don't think American's celebrate it to make of fun of the Irish. Try being a little less cynical in your posts David, especially if you're going to make blanket statements about everyone in a group.David85 wrote:It's not, in America it's a great reason to get drunk off your Megablocks. So pretty much it is just a holiday to make fun of the Irish for drinking so much.
Back on topic, Bruce I really like how you created the rainbow with the mix of 1x1 blocks and cylinders. I wouldn't have thought to throw in that day-glo orange color but it looks good in the mix.
Hoping to have a witty signature and cool avatar one day.

I remember that one. Ya know, if you reduce the landscaping down to 8x8, you'd have a nice little St. Paddys' vignette.Hey,
Happy St. Pat's. A couple of years ago I built this scene.

St. Patricks' Day is very popular here in the States. Many cities hold parades (including my hometown of Charlotte, NC), parties are common (with or without 'spirits') and just ask any schoolchild about the dangers of not wearing any green in your clothing, i.e. no green means that you'll likely recieve a St. Paddys' 'pinch' from your classmates.wow.
I'm from Ireland and a didn't know it was so famous.
Glad to see it mentioned.

Thanks. The mix of blocks and cylinder's wasn't really a choice. Neither was the sort of jagged top where it fades out. That was basically all of the trans bricks I had in the rainbow scheme (except red and green cylinders--from old classic-space days I could have extended those two stripes up quite a ways). Notice right behind the Leprachaun's shoulder you can see a solid purple brick--I've only got three trans purple bricks total (I believe they're from Dumbledore's Office).Drucifer wrote: Back on topic, Bruce I really like how you created the rainbow with the mix of 1x1 blocks and cylinders. Yeah, I thought about re-building the scene as a vig for St. Pat's day, but all of my small green plates are currently occupied in the landscaping of the Pellanor Fields and I need to take some more pics before I tear that all apart. Plus it was just easier to link the old pic back to the front page of my site. The Brick Rat wrote: Ya know, if you reduce the landscaping down to 8x8, you'd have a nice little St. Paddys' vignette.

Those figs are both great little Leprecauns, but I think I like the head that Bruce used just a little bit better. I may just have to make on of my own. I'm not sure that I have that torso though... hmm...
As for St. Patrick's Day Celebrations, everybody at work pestered me about why I wasn't going out to get drunk. I simply told them that I was Irish all the time... I don't need to pretend once a year. I'm not much into the religious holidays, anyway. I did, however, make a little bit of time to listen to some Celtic bagpipes and Irish flute... but that's not really out of the ordinary.
