A cart in two versions

Postby Jojo » Mon Jun 13, 2005 8:51 am

Hello!

Which one do you like better? I personally prefer the one with the bigger back wheels, but it's not functional because the spokes get caught in the studs of the side shelfs.

The smaller wheels don't cause any problem except the problem I have with the looks...

So personally I prefer the look over the function. How about you?

Would a tile work as a side-shelf? Then the stud problem would disappear.

I voted for Form. I could see if this was something that needed to move like a drawbridge or gate, but since it will most likely be part of the details surrounding your castle enviroment. I would rather have it look good than work.

Form all the way.. it's Lego, you're NOT going to play with it!!! : )

On the actual MOC that is beautiful!!! If I had to admit my worst area of castle building it is anything on wheels... So to see you suceed so well should spur me on ; )

Thanks for sharing and God Bless,

Definitely form. It just looks weird with the back wheels smaller.

Cool wagon(s)!

Usually I'd go for function, but in this case I just had to go for form. The bigger wheels in the back look so much better! And besides, if this wagon was fit into a display (instead of played with), no one would know the wheels didn't turn.

isn't it ALL playing?

anyway, the consensus appears to be form since you aren't going to play with it. While I agree the bigger wheels look better, are you sure you aren't going to wake up one morning and decide to have a peasant move it across they "yard"? :D

well I am going against the grain, and voting function. To me a MOC just works better when it works. :D Plus I like the brown...

(both are excellent of course)

Function.

I agree that the form version is a good deal better looking, but I am also a believer in having wheels turn on a waggon. Not everything in my LEGO world needs to be functional, but the wheels ought to turn.

I suppose its out of the question to develope a functional version that matches the form one in looks?

I was a function guy too... I don't think it looks better or worse with smaller wheels, so that might have something to do with it, but... something just seems a little strange about having a LEGO wagon with wheels that won't turn. I know one can't make everything work as it is designed to, but still... ;-)

Hey Jojo,

Great cart. I always love it when your "things" folder appears on the recent page, as you've got a great eye for details on these small builds.

I voted for "form", btw, because all of my building is pretty much for the camera, so I'll quite often have things that look fine (at least from one side) but don't work.

Function.

I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if it didn't actually roll. I would keep having dreams about redesigns....

I had to go with form...it just looks so much better with the big wheels. Very good wagon there, Jojo, I am impressed yet again. :)

What about in real life?

Things rely on function, but with the best form possible. So I went for function.
