LEGO, do not abandon the classic swords!

Postby Jojo » Sun Jul 24, 2005 12:08 pm

Hello!

Dear LEGO, please do not abandon these swords:

Image

They are so much better in every respect than the recently released swords from the current Knights' Kingdom (KK2) theme. The old swords pictured above have an almost appropriate size compared to the minifigs, they can be held in more than one spot, they can be stuck in cross holes, they have a natural colour (natural in LEGO dimensions) and they have a way more accurate shape than the aforementioned KK2 swords.

When I discovered the first Viking sets I was really upset that also here are included KK2 swords rather than the good old type of sword, even though the good old swords had been pictured in the preview pictures.

The new KK2 swords are too big. They have an unpropitious shape. They are too floppy. They are not versatile in handling. They come in unnatural colours for a sword (red? yellow? copper?). They are downright ugly. So please, LEGO don't abandon the good old swords in favour of these new, ugly swords!

Thanks in advance
Jojo

You´re completely right. I couldn´t agree more.
Though I use the old silverswords sometimes which are way too big they look rather good.
Those KKII swords are well....embarassing....

The only thing the KK2 swords are good to is... Well, for KK2. They look very bad on any other type of fig. I tried to use them with my vikings, but they look stupid and even less historically correct.

Long live the Broad Sword!

Dear LEGO,

I too wish to petition you not to abandon the classic sword. It is the most versatile of your cutting implements, and the one I should wish to see lost the least.

That said, I do not feel that you need to dump the KK2 swords, which are nice in that they add some diversity, merely that you need to keep the classic sword alongside.

I agree with Jojo, Lego. Please do not abandon the classic sword. Its ok if you want to use the newer ones in the fantasy world of Morcia, but please please please do not change swords completely. the Vikings need the older swords. and beards too.

I can't really say too much that hasn't already been said, but I have to whole-heartedly agree with the topic. This is as simple as putting two swords next to each other and saying "which one looks goofier?" I'm not asking you to get rid of the KK2 sword. I know you're proud of it's... big... triangleness. I would be too. But the classic sword is just that- a classic. A simple and versatile design that looks good on just about any fig. So please, can we have some more?

A black one?

Lego, please go back to using the old swords. All I use the KK2 swords for is collecting dust.

What is especially annoying is that the old swords actually aren't that far off of real viking swords. The KK swords are, as noted, utterly without any redeeming qualities at all: not the pommel, guard, blade, material, or colors.

The shape of the classic sword doesn't quite fit my vision of what a sword should look like. Why couldn't it be as sharp as the classic spear? The blade is much too broad for the length. I'm all for using the Mega Bloks sword shown here:

Yes, Lego, I too would like to see the return of these classic swords, alongside the new KK2 swords.

I think we should drop the classic swords and the KK2 swords for altogether more realistic swords. The greatswords in gray or the new metallic gold/silver would be ideal... that was the best sword.

Why? Dropping the classic swords and the KK2 swords would make the weapons in both lines (mainly Classic era, KK2 era to a lesser extent) completely redundant.

And besides, I don't want Lego TOO realistic.

I agree with Jojo. The short sword design should be kept. It is the most useful for generic soldiers while a few can have great swords. Vikings should have their own viking swords or short swords.
