Your opinion so far...

Post by ottoatm »

Hey all. For those who have read some or all of my story (legelot.50webs.com/mystory), I was wondering what your thoughts were so far?

I thought it was good but the only problem I found is that the minfigs look identical. Keep up the good work anyways. 8)

I haven't read the whole thing yet, but I liked what I read.
But like theork said, the figs all look alike, maybe some hats or hair would make them look better.

Glad to see that most people at least liked this story! Actually, an even split between "good" and "great" is encouraging to see!

Throughout the publishing of the story, here are the common themes I've seen in feedback:

1. Clone brand... YUCK!

I know a lot of people don't like the clones, they should try building with them!! I can't stand working with the cheap bricks that fall to pieces at the drop of the hat. But I wanted the Dondels to really look like a foreign invader, a really different race of people than the LEGO people. The clone brand looks different in every aspect, including their castles... it was perfect.

2. They all look alike:
But like theork said, the figs all look alike, maybe some hats or hair would make them look better.
I agree with this complaint completely. The reason I made the figs all the same is for several reasons:

a. All the figs are slaves - by making them all look the same, it shows a loss of identity - to "mindless slaves" not living their own lives.

b. These particular slaves will go on to found some of the first LEGO sets (my story is a history of LEGO Castle based on the sets). All the first castle sets that came out when I was a kid collecting them had nothing but lil' smiley faces. :) (That might be why all basic smile faces doesn't seem weird to me too).

c. It might be kind of a silly thing, but I've decided to make the people on the LEGO Castle "Continent" have hair and what not based on where they are from. For example, most people from the area of the Continent where the King's Castle and Black Falcon's Fortress are will be basic smileys... most people from the Fright Knights area of the world will have black facial hair, most of the people from the bulls area of the world will have gray eyes. It's similiar to the way people from India look different from the people of Germany.

Wow...did I just write all that?

Did anyone manage to read all that? :?:

Why yes you did.

Half of it before I fell asleep.

Lol, your story is great Adam. Clones, don't degrade it in my opinion.

It's all good.

I like your story and have read all of it so far. Although it is extremely well written t seems to be a little void of action and needs a more variety. The biggest con would be the clone figs :? Actually, your use of the cape for an apron was a genius idea and I have used it once or twice since then. When are you going to make a sequel?

The first of the three books is a bit slow compaired to the other two, and I did think several times of "spicing it up", so to speak. But I think this is not such a bad sign... for example, the FOTR was slow compaired to the other two as well... so I decided to pretend I could compare my story to Tolkiens. :-P

Ha ha... yes, most readers were not to happy reading with them... and I must confess that working with them was not enjoyable either... I've written another story without the clones, but have to edit the pics before I can publish it... this is the Scroll of Ragnok link that you see on my Legelot site. ;-)

Ah... I'm glad you like! Actually, I can't take total credit for that... credit must in fact go to... LEGO! (http://www.classic-castle.com/sets/imag ... 4/6040.jpg)It's hard to tell from this pic, but the Blacksmith actually has the cape as an apron for protection against the sparks or whatever... I just took the idea and expanded it to indicate the slave profession and what not.

Book two is actually all writen and the pics all taken! I am almost done editing the pics for chapter one, so it should be published soon. :-) I was going to publish sooner, but the Castle World forum has been so fun, I got a little distracted. :-P (who knew forums were so much work!?!)

That is cool! I'm glad you like it - it was fun to make - also, good of you to revive this post - I'm glad to see people are still enjoying the story ~

I like your story because of the clone figs. It makes them more evil and, um, evil. Grate Work!

Ah - that was actually the reason I put them in the story, something of an "us" (good) vs. "them" (evil) thing... good to see you got it (and liked it!) :)
