The Wardrobe (Narnia Vignette) -- Updated

Postby Dunechaser » Sat Aug 13, 2005 1:18 pm

Following on last week's "Lantern Waste," I've built a fairly simple vignette that shows how Lucy got to Lantern Waste -- "The Wardrobe:"

And the gallery when public.

Let me know what you think! :D

No offence, but I like your Lantern Waste one better. This vig seems empty. A fig or two would be nice, and perhaps having a bit of snowy Narnia on the other side of the wardrobe would be cool. I like the use of lightsabers as handles, though. :)

It looks great, but I think the wardrobe should be longer.

I agree with Nate; this vig is great, but it needs more life. Maybe add one of the other children messing around in front of the wardrobe? But I do like your use of lightsaber hilts for door handles--very original.

No offence taken! But hey, the wardrobe is in a spare room -- I intended it to be a bit sparse. LOL! :D But perhaps it is a bit too sparse... Hmmm...

Henry, I'm not sure what you mean by "longer." Do you mean deeper?

eNiGMa, I like your idea. After all, nasty little Edmund did see Lucy going into the wardrobe and followed her. I'll play around with a few ideas to make the spare room a bit more interesting.

Thanks guys! :)

Hey Dunechaser,

I agree with the others--great wardrobe design, but kind of a lifeless vig. Of course (...checks book...), the room is supposed to be empty except for the wardrobe, so that's consistent. The time when Lucy meets Tumnus carrying the umbrella is actually her first trip through the door. All four kids were exploring, and after looking into the wardrobe room the other three left and Lucy checked the door. So it would be okay to have the other three kids there, walking away from the wardrobe. The time with Edmund following her was her second trip.

Ya, I meant deeper. It just doesn't look right in it's dimensions. I still like it though.

I agree... that is a really cool use of lightsaber hilts to show a fancy old wardrobe. Thank goodness for non-castle themes. :)

I like the smooth floor too - make it look a little more realistic. It's a good vig altogether - any of the suggested improvements would make it very cool - I think a fig or two peaking in would be kind of neat to see.

Excellent feedback, everyone! This is precisely why I post my creations. :)

I don't have time to make changes and retake pictures today, but I'll do so soon. BTW, I originally made two versions of this -- the one I posted, as well as one in which Lucy is opening the door. I thought it would be cute to have a bare room with Lucy inside the wardrobe, but that doesn't translate well to pictures (the front shots look far too sparse). I think I'll go back to the alternate design.

ottoatm, thanks for noticing the smooth floors! One thing I've been trying recently is no-studs construction. My piano and turntable were no-studs MOCs.

Now, off to create a thread about my much less sparse "Giant Steps" vignette from The Silver Chair...

Cool vig. You did a neat job making the wardrobe. I like it. As to the sparsity, I like it as well. If you really want to add something, put a window with a green bottle on it. Check the book and I think it says that its there.

Actually, it's a bluebottle, which is not in fact a bottle but a kind of butterfly.

I think the scene looks good, even if it is sparse.

Yup, "dead blue-bottle on the window-sill."

Well, that's one detail I didn't include in my updated version, but I've incorporated many of the suggestions from earlier in the thread.

Hey Dunechaser,

I agree, this looks much better. The snow spilling onto the floor is a nice touch. I'd like to see a photo angle where she's opening the wardrobe and you can see through into the Lantern Waste.
