The Growing Castle

After completing the keep of Stroudwater Castle, I am now working on the rest of it. At this point I have added on a large barracks with knights hall, a kitchen for the knights, armory and storage. I am right now working on the gatehouse. On the photo above the 8x16 bricks that are upside down are where the walls will be. The ones right side-up are where buildings are going to be. I am adding a large stable with hay lofts, a guard tower and a steward's tower. All the walls are going to be 8 studs thick.
I have 1,393 bricks on order from bricklink, not enough to finish it but enough to see how many I will need after that. (also I need to save up some more money)

For size reference in the middle of the soon to-be courtyard is the Lego set 6042 Dungeon Hunters with a minifig next standing next to it.

The photo is just a preview. I am not sure when I will get it done, school is starting soon.

I hope you all like it.

Tell me what you think.

Outstanding! I love it, can't wait for the finished project. One question, looking at your creations they don't seem to be built on baseplates. What are the bricks holding on to? :? Thanks.

This MOC of yours has all the makings of one of the greats. The size is very nice, but the color of the castle and the detail you are hinting at make it seem even better.

Looks like you have a lot more building to do, but so far so good!

Best of luck as you continue...

GAAAA!!!!! When I saw the keep by itself, I thought that was it. But it was only part?! Man, you are one great builder. This castle looks awesome. Keep us posted on updates.

This is really a real looking castle. I especially like the colour of it. Is seems that you don't have to need the grey's anymore. And I like its dimensions. A castle has to be big and powerful.

Go on!
I am looking forward to see the completed building..

I don't like using baseplates because If I want to add on to a building some times the baseplate stick out and from the edge of the building. Also they are not a good thickness too thin but not thick enough. So what I do is build a custom base for all my buildings. I use 8x16 dark gray bricks (I have over 400 of them) In the photo below is the under side of the gate house. On this building I built up a base using three layers of 8x16 bricks, on the keep I used four layers for the base. This makes a very strong custom base for building on. I do think that I will use base plates to add land scaping around it.
