The Ring of Fire...

I fell in to a burning ring of fire
I went down,down,down
and the flames went higher.
And it burns,burns,burns
the ring of fire
the ring of fire.

With apologies to Johnny Cash, this post has little to do with that famous song. :P

In fact, The Ring of Fire is also one of the titles of a book series, conceptualized by an author named Eric Flint. The books detail the adventures of a small town in West Virginia that is mysteriously flung to Germany during the 30 Years War. They are pretty good and can be read at the Baen Free Library. I have redone the covers of the first two books, 1632 and 1633 in our favorite artistic medium, LEGO:

I don´t know how th real covers look like but they seem a little bit too "armoured" (I don´t think that word exists :P )for the time. Quite cool though.

Yes, they are too armoured. The armors are hundred years too late, and the helms are outdated (morions was the most common helm, aside from hats that was mostly common, morions were rare in northern europe). Cuirass was mostly only weared by captains, generals, kings etc in battle at this time. the 30 years war was in the time of stylish uniforms and light weaponry and armoury. ;)
Well, Ive read a book about the swedish "Caroline" regiments from this age so I know my stuff. 8)

But if thats the book cover, I guess its kind accurate, but I need to see it first. I guess this is another of historical incorrectnesses like that Thor would be blonde and beardless... Which is simply a nazi-fantasy.

I was kind of limited by my piece selection. One major change relates to the helms The Hoardsman mentioned- on the cover of the book they are more like the conquistador helms. I chose to use the conical ones for two reasons: 1) the conquistador helms only come in black, and 2) I previously traded my only one away for a green ninja headwrap.

Here's links to the pages where you can see the book covers:

When I saw the thread title and the song, a quite different kind of "Flames" came into my head.

Looks pretty good. By comparing the real ones to yours, I'd say you did a good job making them. I espically like the boat/submarine thingy.
