I think he's finished it... USS CVN Harry S. Truman

Post by JPinoy »

Check it out. I think Weebleleezer is done with his HUGE minifig scale Aircraft Carrier MOC.

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=126969

F-18 Hornets
F-15 Eagles
E-2 AWACs
F-8 Crusaders
MH-53 Sea Stallion
...oh my.

This is the BEST military MOC ever. Not only is the MOC gargantuan, the aircraft operating on it has are quite accurate to what's being used by the US Navy.

Hmm... I wonder if he has an accurate number of a US Navy aircraft carrier crew, which is around 5,000 personnel.

PS: Some of the Castleheads who love to use Grey might feel a little envious. I don't... (because) I always use Black! Haha! :P

I was this on bricklink yesterday and was completely awe-struck. SO much grey.....*insert homer simpson drool sound here*...

I can't believe it, it's like my best child-hood fantasy, having a minifig-scale aircraft carrier (only WWII-style)! There is so much detail here as well. Down to the life-rafts below deck, in the hanger bay. I've studied aircraft carriers before and this one looks just like 'em.

I really can't say enough about it, but I think everyone agrees with me that this is spectacular, so I'll leave it at that.

I've been following the builder's progress for a while and couldn't wait till he was done.

It even appears that he built the full complement of aircraft, not just a few examples. I bet he doesn't have a full crew though! :P

I am totally blown away. Don't know what else to say.

(OMG look at all that grey!)

Yeah, I think just by looking at the minifigures you can tell its about the size of two coffee tables. In other words BIG.

But I think your right. He seems to have only a few minifigures in the MOC. There should be over a hundred crewmen in those colored uniforms on the flight deck.
Purples
Whites
Yellows
Reds
Greens
Blues
and etc.

He has some, but not in the numbers that there should be. He's missing the purple guys too. But despite that... it's still an awesome MOC!

He has certainly outclassed my own Modern Military forces. A carrier with dozens of aircraft -vs- 1 super-tank and some light attack vehicles? Hellz no!

But once I get my Kahilawayan starfighter completed, it'll be a different story...

Quite possibly one of the best lego creations ever in my opinion!
I wonder if the large elevators (that lift the planes) actually work?

Anyways...this is definitely a ship fit for an Admiral!
Hopefully he posts more pics of the finished moc.

I sent Malle Hawking (Weebleleezer) an e-mail last night asking him whether he's done, but haven't received a response yet. When the aircraft carrier was making the rounds of the Internet, I got some more info from him:

* The model is of USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75).
* It's about 5 meters (16.4 feet) long and 1.2 meters (3.9 feet) tall.
* It contains over 200,000 bricks and weighs over 160 kilograms (352 pounds).
* The cost to build it was in the five digits. (Whether Euros or US dollars, that's a lot!)
* It's taken over a year to build, and will be complete at the end of March '06. (Or early April, it would seem.)
* It has electric lights on the flight deck, in the hangar, and inside the aircraft.
* Movable elevators and radar dishes.
* Motorized catapult!!!

I'll post again if I get a response back from Malle.

I wonder if its modular. It would be really mindblowing at a public display!

My only criticism is the photography. With such a fantastic MOC, good photography is essential. The lighting is poor, and there are few if any great shots of the overall carrier. Its obvious that this is an incredible MOC, but the pictures themselves could certainly be improved upon. Perhaps it would be better (depending on modularity of course) if it was photographed outside.

I also agree with photpgraphy Blueandwhite, and I also thought of one more VERY small criticism. I don't see anywhere if he did or not, but the flight deck doesn't appear to have the jetblast deals that come up behind the jets, and it is also deffinately missing the catapults. Grooves in the deck would have sufficed, but I don't see any.

Again I hate to even bring these up, but I think it's vital in a such a superb MOC that these things be looked into. Sometimes small things can ruin the entirety. They DON'T in this MOC, but easily could have.

This is by far one of the best MoC's I have ever seen, and I would love to see it in person. Now I wonder if he is done taking pictures. I am sure with a MOC this size he would have done a decent interior as well.

As for the jets, I do see the F-18's, but I don't see F-15's. The other fighter jet I see is the F-14 Tomcat, which is also a very common naval fighter.

I'd have to say this ranks up there with Lindsey Frederick Braun's various warships. A collosal undertaking that is simply awe-inspiring.

Umm I think F-15s are land based...

I think this is probably the largest single MOC by an individual. Anybody think otherwise?

My bad... I meant F-14. Im not as good with the older types of military vehicles as the newer ones. I keep mixing up those two.

Anyway, in terms of sheer mass... that is no doubt the largest MOC by a single person. There's larger MOCs, but they were built by more than 1 person.

I'll admit... I feel challenged by this! And I have plans to answer...

Most impressive. I'd love to see that thing in person.

Henry Lim's dino is the biggest MOC I've ever seen in person.
