Viking Warlord was released in 2005 for the vikings. He comes in the Viking Ship and Viking Fortress. It's worth noting that this minifig has the only non-speckled viking helmet in the entire theme.

Hey, the helmet would look sweet in a valkery.
I like this fig. His torso looks kinda of mechanical at a first view. I tink the face is little versatile.
Overall score: 7/10.

Well, I have to credit Dragon Master for coming up with it, he started the trend, but to my knowledge the only minifig to get the treatment was the Forestwoman. I'm continuing the idea. But thanks!

I like this guy - he looks very warlord-eque, like the grizzled old king who's fought in many battles. The cloak and golden sword are invaluable. He's on my shelf currently, lording it over the Viking Fortress. The only thing that I dislike is that his torso has a bit too much printed on it and so it looks a bit squashed.
4/5
BTW, welcome, Danju the Clever! It's good to see another KK2 fan on here. But, um..why have you (almost) copied my signature?

Like any sane person I love every viking fig produced, however, this is my least favorite of the group. I simply can't put my finger on it, but there's something about him that annoys me more than any other viking fig...
Conclusion: 5/10

I love the torso design and the face. They both work great in many Castle settings.

Well I like all of him except the sword color

and the torso is a little odd. Also the one from the Ship set has RED pants

So:
Fortress one:9/10
Ship one:7/10

Japan had warlords. Vikings and European cultures had kings. I doubt the Vikings employed the feudal system so king would be a more efficient term (no lords).
Yes, the armor and helmet and cloak would indeed become a king. Though the armor should be more royal and not look like it was a creation of dada art. I like the fact that Lego FINALLY employed the cape for somethin' other than SW which is where the cape was born.
grey armor with gold etching would be awesome! After all, you gotta look cool with your gold sword and helmet. All hail! King of the Vikings!

Cloth capes were first used in castle sets for the Dragon Masters (1993) and later themes including the Royal Knights, Fright Knights, etc. And the SW cloth cape has been used in many hp sets and in the KK2 Chess Set.

Actually Cheiftan would be more historically accurate for this fig.
Having recently watched "The 13th Warrior" again, I am convinced some of the ideas for the LEGO Vikings look came from there. Rondels (shoulder disks) and the Chieftains armour are reminiscent of the movie, but not historically accurate.
Very neat fig, none the less. Looks good as a special leader fig and does not work as well for generic soldier types. The printing on the torsos of the Viking line is great. Best since Dark Forest and the most detailed castle printing ever.

Maybe find a different helmet and head, take off the cape, and use him as a warrior.

Hmm, yes well I like all Viking figs, and I love the detailed torsos. This Viking is pretty good, I'm not a very big fan of the extreme faces...this seems to be the least extreme of the Huge-mouthed viking heads. This Viking is alright, but I'm not a fan of having red pants (the longboat) and/or having dark red on the pants aswell is pretty bad. I like the torso and the use of the gold helmet, but I don't like the face very well and I dont like the use of the reds.
The sword isn't very good, but I guess it goes with the colour of the helmet. The Red with Black Shield goes well with him. I have the longboat, and my viking warlord/king/cheiftan has a black cape instead of red. Is this normal, because I really want a red cape!
Still, I'm a generous man...7/10 because of the torso. Very re-usable
