OK, I know there's at least a few people on this board interested in Steampunk. The Brothers Brick post a new steampunk MOC practically every week, and they can't all be Spacers, right?

So, do you think that there would be a market for an official Steampunk theme? If so, what do you think it would look like, and would you be interested in it? Finally, what official LEGO set that already exists do you think comes closest to the steampunk ideal?

Personally, my vote goes to either 6497 or 5956.

Steampunk has never really interested me that much much, but if it became an official Lego theme, I'd probably get a few sets. A would hope that it looks like the already exsisting steampunk creations, and that it would have lots of useful peices. Also, I agree with you about 6497.

I think it might be interesting, though I'm not entirely familiar with steampunk. It might be a nice way to make more adventurer sets, so if that is the case, I'm all in favor of it.

So I guess you know my opinion of that idea.(I don't want to advertise or anything but I have a couple steampunk creations in my folder just to show I am into actually building things and not looking at others....)

I consider it as a silly but by the very interesting and creative theme (Aren't we all a lil'bit silly? )...
Yeah, I think it would be interesting to see steampunk theme...

It'd make a great tack-on to the Adventurers theme, as said, but I don't think it could stand alone as a whole new genre.

Hm, I had never thought of it that way. I guess it sort of has the same sort of goofball goes-against-all-logical-methods-of-physics sort of theme to it as well. Ah well, different strokes for different folks.

So is that why Space did the steampunk stuff at brickfest this year? I sorta thought that steampunk was more castley then spacey but if more spacers are building in the theme then it does make sense.

Dude, those are only like, practically my two most favorite sets ever. Oh, and I'm with stuifzand on the time cruisers. They were the coolest back in the day.

About an actual lego produced theme though... I'm not sure I'd trust them with it. I can just picture this 4 by 4 modified plate of molded steampunk greeble. Do we really want that? Still, there are a lot of cool possibilities. The 1900's is a great time period. Personally, I want some London sets from that time era. Maybe if if Lego did some sort of classic books sets or something. Sherlock Holmes - Oliver Twist - The Christmas Carol... Or maybe The Phantom of the Opera - The Island of Dr. Moreau - The Time Machine - Around the World in Eighty days - Frankenstein - King Kong(kinda) - Tarzan... Then again there might be copyright stuff with that too for all I know.

Maybe we just need a supplement pack with random steampunk parts...

Brrr... Now that you think of it, they probably would take that route, so let these sort of themes be left to the fans. When I first read this I misinterpreted(sp?) it. Still, one can always dream....

It could be cool. I have never built steampunk, but I really like Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow, if that counts for anything. If Lego got the rights to that, I would probably buy some.

Definitely agree on the timeframe... and I'm not even sure that copyright would be such a big issue (unless you got bogged down in moviedom), because I'm sure some/most of those books would have long since entered the Public Domain. But I'm no lawyer... so don't quote me!

I have never really tried steampunk (or floating rocks which seem to blur together well), but I sure love the creations and would love to make some when my castle is done.

I think that there is a good market for them (please no licenced schtuff!). They would fall in line well with themes like airbender and more...

You can see how much kids are gobbling up anime-inspired things, and steampunk is deffinately in that category, so, I would say GO FOR IT LEGO!

It seems you can't make a steampunk MOC without an Adventurers minifig, so I agree that that's as close as we're probably going to get to an official steampunk theme (although I would argue that Rock Raiders were also semi-steampunk in certain respects).

As Azaghal noted, I do love steampunk, mainly because I grew up on classic science fiction and the movies of Hayao Miyazaki (Laputa: Castle in the Sky pretty much defines the genre).

What I like about steampunk is its mix of past and present. I was both a castler and a spacer back in the 80's, and I often created alternate past MOCs -- castles in ruin with landing pads for space ships, Forestmen with laser guns, etc.
