Hello,
I have been working on a large castle lately which contains a large area of rock. I have had some trouble with making convincing rock in the past and have looked up alot of ideas. I thought it might be benificial to others if an admin might make a "how-to" rock page in that area of the site.
Perhaps I have overlooked something, and maybe this is the wrong area to post this in, but it was an idea I had today.
I would gladly voluneer to help do the write-up, but I don't have the time what with school starting again.
Thanks for considering it!
Another "how-to" page idea.

This site is not about the admins, we are merely caretakers. Yes, we write articles from time to time, but anyone and everyone is invited to write how-to articles to be placed on the website. This is a community website, and to use a tired phrase, by the people for the people.
If you have an idea for a landscape/rockface article, why not contact someone who has already built something similar and see if you can't join forces.

Hi wunztwice,
A long time ago (couple years?) I think Kevin asked me to write an article on landscaping. I never really finished it, but would like to. I don't have a lot of free time right now, but I still probably have it kicking around somewhere.
What sort of rock area are you referring to? (Semi-)Vertical cliffs, or a free-standing rock?
I think the biggest trick to make a convincing rock is to make it non-uniform. Don't pay close attention to exactly how each piece lines up: If a piece sticks out a long way, that's perfectly okay. On the other hand, if you find each row is a perfect match with the row below, it won't turn out so well.

Ah, I remember seeing your name in connection with something like that before...
I just thought this might be helpful for anyone in a simelar predicament. Yup, I've always tried to employ those basic principles in rock face constuction, but mine jsut don't seem to come out as well as many folk's here. It may just be a practice issue...
My rocks are mostly more vertical type, for this MOC anyways.
Like I said, it was just an idea I had last night, and thought it might be benificial to the community as a whole.
Thanks for the replies!

I've actually been writing and compiling examples for an article that I thought to present in December or January- just rock, not landscape, but it's coming together fairly nicely...
