Edo Castle

Presenting
Edo Castle!
My first Micro Scale creation, created for the LEAHI display at the Hawaii FLL on December 2, 2006.
It is based on a
Doyusha 1/700 scale model kit that I built back in 1999 (during my Lego dark ages).
I haven't had this much fun building something since my
Japanese Restaurant (I guess I have a thing for Japanese architecture).
I had to mix old dark gray and new dark bluish gray to complete the castle and ramparts due to a lack of pieces in the proper colors.
It is sectional to make it easier to transport (one 32x32 plate and one 32x16 plate). Total build time was about 10 hours.
Thanks to Leonard Hoffman for his
2.6 diameter sphere tree idea.

Thank you,
Patrick Yrizarry

Very nice. I especially liked the use of sand green cones for trees.

This is really cool. I usually don`t like eastern mocs but this is one of the few that are very interresting. Great work there. Realistic and the techniks you have used are great.
Keep up the good work.

Excellent!
What's so great about this is that it's very vignette-like. Instead of just building the main castle, you included a slice of the courtyard (with awesome trees), outer walls, and moat.
Now, I'd love to see your take on the classic Himeji castle or the green-roofed Nagoya castle.
Ironically, I can't comment on how closely your Edo-jo resembles the real thing, since I've never been to it (despite being born in Tokyo, aka Edo, and visiting hundreds of times).

Hey, maybe this and the Odaiba contest will prompt updates to PPB!
Bruce (who can't complain, given the dry spells that VB has been subject to)

Awesome. The sand green for the trees looks great & the structure is completely studless. Great work

I am a huge fan of asian style castles! This one is great. I love the way you did the small bushy trees and the windows as well.

This is an absolutely fabulous recreation, Sir Patrick! The roofs, the courtyards, the walls, and the little red gate thing (forgot the name). The mixing of grey and bley actually looks really good here. I hope to see more Japanese castles from you soon!
