I don't think I can choose either one- I don't personally own the yellow castle for one thing(although I've seen some good pics and could evaluate it pretty well) and nobody has their hands on the new castle and the pics aren't good enough to judge it. I think this poll should wait 'til the new stuff comes out.

Neither.

I appreciate the Yellow Castle (as it was my first castle set), but it is in no way my favorite. The new castle is also pretty average. Neither of these designs hold a candle to the best that LEGO has produced (IMO of course). The Yellow Castle isn't worth it in today's market (nostalgia or no), and the new castle doesn't do much for me either.

I'd rather hunt for an extra copy of 6074. Its all about the bricks.

I do like the look of the new castle better, not letting that very unsafe tower walkway impede my judgement, which is why I voted for it.

However, the number of figures that comes with the Yellow Castle is undeniably a high point.

I do agree that perhaps this pole would be better suited for when the new castle comes out.

Though you could still give a fair opinion if you base your vote not having owned either and just on first apperances.

It's unbelievable that by voting for the Yellow Castle, I only took it to 50/50. I'm not trying to insult anyone's opinion, but there is no question that the Yellow Castle was one of the greatest in the history of LEGO castle. The new one, on the other hand, has tons of special pieces, premade wall pieces, and other Duplo style features.
The Yellow Castle took LEGO to the height of its purpose. (Does that make sense grammatically?) There was no greater joy than having a bunch of regular bricks and combining them in any way you wanted. The fig count was also great. Although the new castle is grey as opposed to yellow, that is, in my opinion, the only place where it beats the treasure of Classic Castle.

Thats sort of what I meant, "if you could get one" implied that you didn't have either...

I can't back out on my buddy the yellow castle. I love the light grey helms, the visors, and the maltese cross guys, plus it was the first minfig castle, and not too shabby in construction either.

I would like the new one too, just the yellow is in a place of severe honor.

If I had to choose between the two it would come down to piece / accessory usability. The yellow castle being both brick-built & totally crammed with minifigs and weapons would undoubtably be more usefull to me - even in this day & age & even if I am collecting bley,

which it is, & which I am ... ;)

Oh, I evened up the score (right now it is 6 to 6). I voted for the new crown knights. They seem cool to me. I'm not much of a fan of the yellow castle although I like the way it hinges out.

I don't really think that this is a fair comparison, because both of these come from two different times, but I would choose the new castle, since the yellow castle doesn't really appeal to me all that much.

Not trying to pick a fight here, but no, there is a question to the greatest in the history of LEGO castle. I'm not saying that this new one is either, but think for a second. What are you getting in the yellow castle? Maybe $10 worth of Bricklink parts and some (in my opinion) overrated figures.

Now, I recognize the nostalgia element, but romanticizing a period where lego had a limited parts (and color) pallette doesn't make me think more highly of whatever came out of it. The yellow castle carries a few of the things everyone complains about in the newer castles (no ladder, for example) and it just doesn't have that many nice parts. I, for one, like 'special pieces'- I think if you give a crative builder a "premade wall peice", he'll find a great use for it as something other than a wall. Far from limiting this builder's creativity and forcing him to think inside the box, it has expanded his creative medium, to great results.

Anyway, not voting, because I think they both have faults, and I likely won't have either of them anytime soon.

I went with the yellow castle because I love the old style visors, but I'm also really excited about the new castle. And I'm sure I will have the new castle before I get a copy of "old yellow". :)

I went with yellow because...
1) I can no longer aquire these pieces/figures.
2) Visors
3) Love the cross knight figs.

But of course, if I did get the new castle, it would be BEFORE everyone else, so I would have a unique set...

Going by color, figures, faction, etc, Yellow castle totally trashes the new theme in color, figures, and faction. Why color? One word...

Bley
Aren't you being a bit too hard on new sets simply because they are bley? I admit, I don't like bley, but its not as if the Yellow Castle is any better when it comes to colour. I may not like bley, but I wouldn't exactly champion a modern line of yellow castle sets either.

Since everybody's been discussing this one, I think I'll clarify my reasons for choosing not to vote.

For me, these two sets break down as follows:

The Yellow Castle wins in terms of parts, minifig count and set design (the new castle looks rather poor in my opinion). The new castle features a great new faction that I prefer to most of the Knights of the yellow castle.

The Yellow Castle has a great ratio of specialized elements (arches hinges and the like), to basic plates and bricks, allowing for alot of replay. The new castle looks to match up well with some of the mid 90s sets, but I find that the use of specialized elements is too dominant here.

The Yellow Castle also benefits from a more coherent design. While it obviously lacks stairs (something featured in 7094), the overall shape of the castle is far more pleasing to me. 7094 seems to stretch its parts too thin, resulting in a number of hollow-looking towers. I'm also not particularly fond of the two randomly placed rock pieces on the front towers. They look out of place when compared to the rest of the castle.

The new minifigs however are wonderful. I like the added detail on the torso prints, the silverish armour, and the new bardings. These guys will probably join along side my BFs to do battle with the Lion Knights and Black Knights. The new Crown Knights are the best faction we've had in over 10 years!

Overall, neither of these sets is really that impressive. The Yellow Castle will always be limited by its unusual colour. It simply doesn't fit in well with newer castle lines. The new castle shares many of the faults of more recent lines, trying too hard to be big at the expense of a clean, coherent design.
