Flickr LEGO Build & Capture contest winners
12 XII 21

Flickr recently announced the winners of the 2021 LEGO Build & Capture contest. All of the winners are awesome (and if you click through the blog to the entry pool there are over 3000 entries), but 2 of the 6 winning entries are castle themed:

Nathan Smith's Sunset of Empires is just an amazing build and is beautifully photographed. He's also got a great story to go along with it. I would encourage everyone to click through to his photostream. He's a master of using dramatic lighting effects, camera angles, deep focus vs shallow focus, and fog effects to make scenes out of his MOCs that really tell a story, a large percentage of which are castle (including Tolkien) themed.

Tom Milton's The road must be trod isn't about the build at all. It's just about taking minifigs and masterfully posing and photographing them in a natural setting, to make you think they are trekking far over the misty mountains cold (okay, I know, that's a quote from the Hobbit, not Fellowship). Clicking through to his photostream you can see tons of photos that take LEGO and other toys and make truly cinematic scenes.

Please discuss these, or any of the great entries from the Flickr contest in our forum.

CCC XIX - Bring back the fun!

The leaves are turning colors, there's a chill in the air, turkeys are getting nervous. What's that mean? That means it's the best time of the year, time for a new Colossal Castle Contest. Blue is taking the reins and is bringing back the fun. In order to streamline the contest there have been some changes to the rules from previous contests, and some of the prizes have yet to be finalized, but it's time to dump your bricks into a big pile in the middle of your floor and start building. Check out the categories to help inspire your creativity. Let's show the world how awesome the best LEGO theme can be. Leg godt!

CCC XVIII Master Builder

Before we start CCC XIX (just around the corner - watch for Blue's announcement), we have some long-unfinished business. Please congratulate jtooker, our newest CCC Master Builder. Jtooker created an impressive series of MOCs for the contest. Check them out and share your love in our forum.

LEGO Masters Results

Spoilers below!

THEY WON!!!!!!

Mark of Falworth and Brother Steven, aka brothers Mark and Steven Erikson, well-known members of the community and, among other awards, both CCC Master Builders, were the top team in season two of LEGO Masters. And they did their castle roots proud with their final build, this castle fantasy Ent ... er ... "Warden of the Woods" -- c'mon, guys, we know that's Treebeard, but you can't say so for copyright reasons :). We're proud of you guys. Be sure to congratulate Mark and Steven in our forum. Okay, now, who's applying to be on the show next year?

RIP Fraslund
10 VI 21

You may have seen the news on the Brothers-Brick of the unexpected passing of David Frank. David was active in SEALUG and also on various forums, including for several years here at CC where he used the handle Fraslund. I never met him IRL, so I will point you to the posting on BB by Chris Malloy, who knew him well. If you have memories of Fraslund, or want to talk about some of the work in his Flickr stream, please share in our forum.
Jormungandr
5 VI 21

Prominent castle builders and AFOL community members (and actual brothers) Mark of Falworth and Brother Steven are the team to watch on the new season of LEGO Masters on Fox. In the first episode, teams were tasked with building a float for a parade. Appropriately, Mark and Steven came out with a castle-themed entry, Jormungandr. I'd like to think that each of them winning Master Builder in past CCC's laid the foundation for their future success on LEGO Masters! Good luck, guys!
Summer Joust 2021
2 VI 21

For the past several years the Summer Joust has become the highlight of the summer months. This contest, created and hosted by Isaac Snyder over on Flickr challenges individuals and teams to create castle-themed MOCs in a number of categories. This year those categories include 12x12 Vignette, High Fantasy, Monastery, Asian Setting, Creating an Atmosphere, and the team category Through the Seasons. Check out all of the details and submit your entries to the dedicated Flickr group.

Discuss this contest in our forum, but please go to the Flickr group for official information. This is not a CC activity, but Isaac and many of the participants are current or former CC members. As a CC admin I'd encourage you to join, and also to post your entries in our Castle MOC forum after you submit them to the contest. Good luck, everyone!
3-in-1 Creator Castle 31120
11 V 21

Official pictures have been posted for the highly anticipated set 31120, 3-in-1 Creator Castle. Yes, we don't seem to be getting an official theme reboot any time soon, but this set has a lot to love. Come see all the pics and share the love (or your critiques) in our forum.
