Re: CCC XVI Dragon Mountain Micro

This is beautiful and hits enough nostalgia buttons AND is a clever working of multiple sets into one tableau such that I had to emerge from age-long slumber and offer kudos.

Re: Wolf Pack Revamped?

In general, I would love to see a Castle theme with a Wolfpack-flavour, but I don't know how far in that direction LEGO is likely to go while remaining "on brand." That, in general, has been the biggest issue with D&D themed suggestions in the past: rogues and drunks and villainy is so...

Re: Collectible Minifigures Series 17

I'm not necessarily going to complain that LEGO tried something new with marketing this series (it's crazy how long Collectible Minifigs have been around now--I was still in Canada when they started...), though the Highwayman does seem to be more hype than substance in its reveal. I like him as a mi...

Brickfair New England

After probably 12 years of wanting to go to a LEGO convention*, I'm actually about to go to my first one: Brickfair New England is taking place up the road. I know it's a bit of a long shot, but I figured I'd see if there are any other Classic-Castlers attending. Expect pics at some point! *Seriousl...

Re: LEGO Batman Movie - spoiler alert

I agree that The LEGO Batman Movie lacked the full magic of The LEGO Movie --but I think it's a LITTLE bit unfair to hold that comparison against it. I was entertained watching it (whereas, during the original, I was blown away walking out of it). Put it this way: The LEGO Batman Movie sat about whe...

Brickshire

Since I'd never seen this before and since it seems relevant to the interests of other Classic-Castlers, who may also not have seen it before, it seems fitting to me to share a find I made today on Flickr of a LEGO Castle tale: [url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/forrumandmonkeys/8540973238/in/album-...

Re: Shipwreck

I recognise all the LEGO pieces in that scene, but the colour usage is so vivid and realistic--and so far from the colour-schemes of most MOCs that it almost doesn't look LEGO. I love the bold use of regular, old-fashioned green! Besides the colour, the best element here is the shape of the vessel, ...

Re: Caradhras

The rockface is obviously the technical creme-de-la-creme of the piece, and I think the ice along the edge of the cliff is an excellent touch as well. But my personal favourite detail, from a Tolkien-referencing standpoint, is Legolas walking along the top of the snow while the rest of the Fellowshi...

Re: Fully Illustrated Rein of Stallworth Lagrest!!

Always exciting to see another illustrated LEGO tale--or LEGO annal, anyway. I'm not sure if I like the sepia photographs for the whole thing. I thought it was interesting at first, but I was sort of expecting that you were going to move from sepia to full colour once things got going. And if this a...

Re: CC Set Review: 79005 - The Wizard Battle

I remember thinking this set looked overpriced and rather lacklustre when it was first released. ANOTHER Gandalf and a handful of black pieces really didn't seem worth it just to get a Saruman... but I eventually got it anyway, since it was the only Middle-earth set that fit into my budget that trip...

Re: 6044 King's Carriage vs 7092 Skeleton Prison Carriage

I have both these sets... and both are somewhat underwhelming to build. The skeleton one, in particular, feels out of scale with the castle in the same theme, but this is a charge that can be levied against both. Fig-wise, the Royal Knights have the slight edge, since (in part due to the Royal Knigh...

Re: CC Set Review: 9472 - Attack on Weathertop

This was my first LotR set, so as a die-hard Tolkien fan, it had to bear a lot of scrutiny in terms of whether I would open up to this movie-based line... and the verdict was that it they'd knocked it out of the park. Honestly, every LotR or Hobbit set has been a little bit of a let-down since this ...

Re: CC Set Review: 9476 - Orc Forge

The odd thing about this set, good or bad, seems to me to be the *diversity* of the Orcs. The Moria/Uruk-hai divide has been noted already, but even beyond that the Uruk-hai are sub-divided between a fully-uniformed Uruk and a freshly-born, loincloth-clad, Uruk. The reason this strikes me as odd is ...

Re: Policy guidance on posting pictures more than once

Thanks, Bruce. If a picture is just of minifigs with no heavy modding, i.e. no paint, cutting or sculpting, such as this one http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/AmperZand/Fantasy/uruk_army_montage_small.jpg where does it go? Eurobricks has its own forum for all minifigure-related posts regardless of ...
