A Pirates MOC : Puerto Brico

Post by Eric Druon »

Hello everybody,

It tooks me a little time ( ) to realise that a Pirates MOC could pleased Castle lovers too. And I must add that because I'm new here, I'm not sure where to start so here's my new in a total disorder.

My last creation is a small port in the Caribbean seas.

Image

This model still needs some work for some details.

Impressions, critiques, comments and etc... are welcome,

Enjoy,

PS My name is Eric Druon a.k.a. BaronSat. I'm a graphic artist and of course a Lego maniac. I live in France.
You see I told you that was a total disorder

Image changed to thumbnail link by moderator. Do not post images larger than 400x300 pixels in the forums. Thanks.

Welcome to C-C, Eric! :D

A few thngs about your post: Your image is too big, and since it is Pirate themed, it probably belongs under "General Lego".

I've seen your MOC on other forums, and it is very well done. I like your solutions for the (red) awnings, and the yellow shutters, and the whole style of the buildings is very... piratey.

Now, build a Castle!

Very nice. It feels very true to the old pirate sets. I especially like the way you've staggered the boards on your dock, it gives it some realism. Is that a custom sail on your ship? (I used to love pirates, but I'm not overly familiar with all the elements) Great job.

Sir Nelson is right, indeed... both issues "fixed", so now onto your work~

I agree that those awnings are a great idea - it makes for a really cool look, especially for the caribbean/pirates theme... I'm not sure why, but they remind me of a sort of beach theme...

Also, those yellow doors are a nice touch - I wonder how you made them? The end look is nice as well~

I am a big fan of Pirates, indeed. If not for castle I would be wasting all of my money on this theme for sure. I was going over your stuff and it all looks great - a lot of neat building in Pirates there...

Oh... and welcome~

Hey Eric,

Welcome to CC! I've always enjoyed your work across several themes, and, yes, there are a lot of pirate fans here. Actually, all theme creations are welcome in General LEGO, but you'll probably get more comments from the "castle-friendly" themes simply due to the interests of forum members.

I actually already posted a link to Peurto Brico in this thread when it went up on Brickshelf. I'll go ahead and lock that thread, so as to avoid duplicate threads. Normally I'd lock the second thread, but that just seems rude to a newcomer. :)

BTW, Eric, your site is an honorary Classic-Castle Cool Link. We recently started a regular site highlight, and rather than start from square one I inducted all former Cool LEGO Site of the Week winners with Castle content as honorary CCCL's.

Hi Sir Nelson,
Yes, sorry for the big photo, I found that wasn't easy to place a small image with a link but I think I understood how it works now.

I'm planning to make a castle but didn't find the good idea for now. Hope that will come soon.

Hi Lonan,

Thanks.
Yes, the sails are custom made but they are just double sided printed paper with coat.

Hi Ottoatm,

Fisrt thanks to have fixed my mistakes.

My model makes you think to a beach theme? Maybe I should add some surfboarders or girls in red swuimsuits :) As I made this model in August and considering I live near the ocean... yes, beach and holidays are definitively included in this MOC even if that wasn't intentionnal, that was just in the air.

The shutters are just using plates with handle. As I did in my tavern model.

Thanks for your kind reception.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for your reception and not to have locked my new. I browsed the forums in search of Pirates news before I posted it but didn't noticed that you started one??? Hm, I really need to practice CC forums

Sorry but I didn't get (inglisch izn't may first langage  ) how to get more comments, did you suggested another section of the forums?

I noticed the link to my website in the CC links, thanks.

Eric

PS One question : should I answer all the messages in just one or is it ok as I did?

Hello again~

You should definately just answer in one post, as posting two or three in a row is usually frowned upon...

As for the "beach theme", I'm not sure why, but it just has a feel of a caribbean beach house or something... :)

But it also works as is too... I've never seen such a tactic before... nice bit of building there~

Oh you were speaking of the tiny white and blue house... I feel like a stupid MONKEY not to have understood it was this building from my ISLAND you were mentioning.
I really wonder where I captured this type of building... or maybe the answer is just above...

.... and with that my inspiration for Pirates came back :D

Seriously though I really like this, I see far too few Pirates MOCs (especially since that was originally my favourite theme before I came to CC). The white, yellow and red colours of the tower brings back memories of old Imperial Guard sets as well, and I really like that ;)

Darn it, how will I have time for Castle, Pirates and a LIFE? :P Not to mention the Batman inspiration I got after listening to the Mask of the Phantasm soundtrack and buying my first set........

Oh, enough rambling.. Welcome to CC, and I hope you will enjoy your stay!

A very warm welcome to CC Eric!

I am pretty impressed by this MOC, I think it captures a Lego set feel, while still maintaining a personality all your own. The customs dotted here and there are done well, and I especially like the ship, it very much reminds me of a small merchant vessel I made when I was younger!

The "modular" system for a waterfront is a great idea (maybe I should try a hand at it). And BTW I have perused your brickshelf many times and I love your stuff, keep it up!

Hiya Eric - welcome to CC.

Some excellent stuff you have there. As said previously you really capture the spirit of LEGO pirates very effectively. Well done!
