My Brickshelf Clean-UP

Post by Norro »

Hey all,

I have decided to clean out all the older MOCs from my Brickshelf Gallery as I am ashamed by their quality and I hope to make room for new and improved ones. The ones being cut are mainly old CC entries and Medieval Marketplace Standard MOCs. Most of them will still be visible in folders featuring whole layouts, it is only the folders containing the individual buildings that are being deleted. Here is a quick list of the items that will be going in case anyone wants to look at anything before it vanishes off-line:

Image (pic=link)

-A Medieval Fishing Scene
-A Falcon Siege Ram
-Occupied Inn
-A Hawk/Falcon and Supply Store
-A Modular 80s Castle this one had a nice twist, you could fold and unfold it like a regular lego castle, but the moat went with it...
-A Luxury Furniture and Fabric Store
-An Elephant Chariot
-Crown Heist Vignette
-A Stocks Scene
-A lady's Fashion Medieval Marketplace
-A Western Store Front
-A "Treasure" Store
-A Statue Maker's Medieval Marketplace
-Smuggler's Stop
-Securities Firm Medieval Marketplace
-A Pillar Cart
-Ninja Store
-The Yellow Castle "Under Construction"
-A Horse Merchant Medieval Marketplace
-A Green Grocer Medieval Marketplace
-Carpenter's Shop Medieval Marketplace

God Bless all,

Nathan

Hey Nathan,

While I agree that your building has greatly improved over the years, I always hate it when people delete old MOCs. It leads to broken links and removes the historical record.

BTW, I changed your over-large image to a thumbnail. Could you either shrink the image or break it up into a few images <400 pixels?

Thanks
Bruce

I tend to agree with Bruce. Perhaps you could just move all the old creations to a seperate folder of your brickshelf?

Moving them would have the same effect as deleting them, at least as far as broken links are concerned.

I have felt the need to do this too, since my brickshelf folder is a mess. But I've decided not too for the reasons that Bruce states. But my gallery still bugs me. :?

Hey Norro, please don't delete these. Some of them are pretty good, and like Bruce said, it leaves dead links. If you really want a "clean" folder, you could always register a new gallery under a different e-mail address, and upload the MOCs you want to keep into the new one. If you do do that, I suggest you organize it similarly to mine, with a "Castle" subfolder in the main gallery, and all of your castle stuff in there; and more main gallery subfolders for space (if you ever build any), trains, etc.

Some of them, as you have stated, aren't very good, (meaning no disrespect). However, there are a few of them, like the castle which folder out and the fisherman scene, which are very good. I would suggest saving a few of the better ones, even if you take out the rest.

Those reasons kept me from doing this last year (also on your advice I believe :D ), but now I want to move forward, and I think having a less cluttered gallery will make it easier for visitors to see MOCs worth seeing.

I checked the old Lugnet posts and most have a link to the layout the models are in (which will remain in my gallery), that should also serve to satisfy those looking for a progression in building quality...

Sorry about the image (it's EB size). I changed it to a link...

God Bless and thanks all,

Nathan

I've been tempted to reorganize and even delete my old MOCs on Brickshelf from time to time, but the thought of all those posts on all those forums and blogs turning up the next day with broken images makes me squeamish. If you have a poorly organized Brickshelf gallery (like I do), I think you're pretty much stuck with it.

(Of course, you can do pretty much anything without affecting links using the tag and photoset system on Flickr. Just saying...)

I really understand your need to make room for new and improved Lego MOCs. This is what keeps us building. But you should never be ashamed of your old work. You should look back on it and reflect at how you have IMPROVED. But don't be ashamed of anything you have built.

I am looking forward to some of your new stuff.
