when I was reserching war in the middle ages, I came across one type of soldier that intrigued me. The man who marched into battle, head held high, armed with a flag. The man whose job it was to boost the spirits of the soldiers. I made that man.
This fourm is for anyone who has made this soldier, or would like to comment on somebodys.
I really like how mine turned out. He holds the flag for my Japanese troops.

Very nice! As soon as I get my armies together, I do plan on making some flags, banners, and other stuff for the troops to rally around. I think your's is great though. I may be forced to copy the design as well. I could be mistaken, but didn't samurai and Japanese footsoldiers also have flags that were actually attached to their backs? I've been trying to do that with the newer back-stud peices, with mixed results. I really need to get a digital camera and a brikshelf account to join in the posting goodness.

I just stick the Japanese banner on a lance and put that out the back of the fig's off hand. They don't use shields, so it works if you aren't the fussy type.

I've actually done something similar to this when I've got extra troops and not enough weapons... but yours is nicer. For some reason, I never thought to put a skull on there, but that's very intimidating.
There were also soldiers that carried flags allowing different regiments in an army to communicate with each other. The larger the forces, the more this was needed. Horns and other musical devices were also used.
