Sweet Lego Hoard of MISB on Brickshelf

Post by Chuck06 »

While perusing Brickshelf I came across this:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=236834

I've seen various hoards of MISB sets before, but this one seems to rival TLC's own archive (at least for town sets). Does anyone have or know of a similarly impressive hoard of MISB castle sets which we can ogle?

This guy should a): Actually use the LEGO, and become another AFOL, or,
b): Sell it, and make another AFOL happy

I know what you mean...I spend ages scouring the shops for cheap deals on last year's sets and then I come home to see this...I actually feel quite disheartened.

Does anybody feel slightly bothered by this sight? Honestly, I just can't imagine such a large collection of MISB sets. What's even more fascinating is that the owner of this gallery doesn't appear to have any MOCs posted whatsoever, suggesting that he or she is a collector rather than a builder. I don't think I've seen anything like this in the AFOL community before.

Cool.

I ran across this yesterday.

I was horrified that you would have that many and not even use them.
I mean in that case, sell them!

Actually collecting rather than building, and even collecting MISB rather than used/usable sets is not such a rare thing.

I don't know the owner of the gallery linked above, but a friend of mine is a MISB-collector, and his storage looks similiar. Through him I know how many co-collectors there are in the whole wide world, that's why I think this branch of AFOLdom is thicker than one might think.

I doubt he's either going to sell or open these sets. I quote from his lugnet profile:

"More & Less:
More: MISB (yes! MISB .. are my obsession!!!), less tatty boxes, boxes without cellophane or seals brocken

Rules I try to live by:
No.3. Never open a MISB set"

I saw this guy pay over £650 (way over $1000) for 1589 misb yet he still wants ANOTHER!!! Written on the 1589 set reference:

"1 MISB and 1 BOXED!!! the 2nd best lego set ever after 1620 chocomel!!! simply perfect!!! if you own another misb contact me!!! we can speak about it!!!"

CRAZY!!!

Not like I'm jealous or anything :-P

That makes my blood boil!

Lego is for building with and using, not throwing in dark rooms to never open and stare at!

Stamps are for licking them and sticking them to letters. Yet there are some who misuse them as collectibles.

Maybe the Sheriff should arrest this stranger. Oh wait, he has already been nominated as newbie of the month ;)

I am not against fans collecting misb sets. There are plenty of used copies for me (and others) to buy, play with, and use those parts.
