Double-sided Faces

Post by Sir Kohran »

With the Scary Laboratory people, the recent Exo-Force minifigs and at least one Castle 07 minifig all featuring heads with varying faces/expressions, what do you think of this? Do you like it or not?

Expressive faces are really useful for vigs and dioramas or any MOC featuring minifig action. The double sided heads mostly provide an emotive face so they can be really useful for these. My only gripe is that often the reverse side of the head can still be visable even with the hair piece that was originally provided for the fig

You should make this a poll.
I like them, but DARKspawn is right, they're annoying to cover.

I agree about hiding they're faces on the back.

I do think that they're good, because it's almost like having an extra head.

I was kind of reluctant about the Batman and Catwoman set because neither Batman's nor Catwoman's heads would be that useful, but when I got it for Christmas, I was happy to find that Catwoman's head was 2-sided, so you get both masked CW and unmasked... I was needing more woman heads, so that was good.

Only Viking hats, , Pirate hats, some townie hats and the short male hair piece are hard to use with the face on the back of the head. In many cases I was grateful to have the two expressions in each set, but I would have prefered a seperate head piece in retrospect. Peter Parker is one of the worst figures in this way (lips under hair!).

I really like them and wish they made more varieties, but at the same time, I don't want to see the regular one sided faces replaced.

I would have to completely agree with the previous posters, the two sided faces are a good idea, and the extra expressions are useful when creating Vigs and Dioramas. I would also agree that 2nd face (the one at the back) can be very tricky to cover – but luckily the Castle based helmets are rather big, and do a good job of covering this 2nd face.

I love the heads, as most have said, they are useful in many MOCs and Vigs.

And, being the customizer that I am, I just Brasso off one side of the face.
Most of the time I only want the side with the expression, so I don't care about removing the other, but if I like both side I just buy two heads.

Some of them are useful but others can be useless... They are fine, just hard to cover up on the back. I only have one though (from an e-f set, just bought it for the katana's).

I like all the good stuff you can use with them like Mocs and Vigs but when I want a certain hair on someone its hard to cover up...So I like the Castle faces but the Exo-Force doesnt have any use for me so its 50/50 for me. :?

If they make double-faced heads at least one of the faces should always be a basic smiley.

I would love this. It would help tone down the rediculous expresions a tad, and I would get my smilies! (as many of you know, I am a HUGE proponant of the classic smiley!)

As far as many of the other two-faced heads I like some of them, some are du...er... less cool to me. I like the basic idea, but sometimes they are overused, and hard to cover, as hte majorit here have pointed out.

Hey,

I also love the doublesided heads for the extra expressiveness. I've previously blogged about the usefulness of the "scared man" face.

Image

On the problem of the back side showing out from under the hair, I'm generally not as bothered by that since I build primarily for the camera, so I can just swap in a blank head if I'm taking a photo from the back side. The one very notable exception is the mummy:

If you don't want your mummy wearing the headdress there's no way to show him from the back side.

Yup, I also love them.

My favorite is the

Flesh New Ron with the Awake/Sleeping Head. It really is useful.

I also like the Quarrel(did I spell that right?)/Voldemort head.

But you're right, the mouth keeps on showing in the back...

That would have been a fitting name for his schizophrenic relationship to Voldemort but the proper spelling is Quirrel :P

Anyway, yes, I love these doublesided heads! And just as Bruce I almost always build for the camera so I'll just swap them if I get a misplaced mouth in the neck or something.

And what would the world of LEGO stories, and before all Vigs have been without the scared faces? ;)
