Hey,

Black looks really cool, but it can be difficult to photograph effectively. One thing that came to mind immediately was Othanc. Follow this for a variety of different Orthanc MOCs.

Dave O'Hare made a huge black tower:

Nelson made a great castle seige for our recent contest:

Of course, that's in the style of the official Black Knights faction, with sets such as Black Monarch's Castle and Black Knight's Castle.

More recently you have sets like Vladek's Dark Fortress:

Here's Jon Furman's Lord Wormwood's Fortress:

I'm actually building a Black castle myself, not to the magnitude of Dave O'Hare's Black Tower, or Jon's Wormwood Castle(God I love that name), but it will be black. :)
wrap me in a bolt of lightning,
send me on my way still smiling,
maybe that's the way i should go:
straight into the mouth of the unknown....

If your building in black, try to use a highlight colour. In Vladek's fortress, the highlight is Bley and Dark Red, and in both of the Black Knight's castles, the highlight colour is light grey. This extra colour will make black (which is notoriously difficult to photograph) show up better.

Here are some pics I found on flickr of a very nice black castle:

As you can see, it doesn't have a highlight color, but with all the detailing put into the walls, it doesn't really need one, either.

It also looks similar to Steve DeCraemer's wonderful castle:

So he might've built it.

It is Steve DeCramer's wonderful castle, plus crappy lighting.

His is dark grey. In the first link I posted, you can clearly see black, dark grey, and light grey... unless you think that last is white. And since when do nets come in dark grey?

Or do you mean this is a second castle of his, that is black, but still has bad lighting anyway?

Steve's mountain was light grey, dark grey, and finally black.

I know. I just meant that this wasn't the same castle mentioned in this thread:
viewtopic.php?t=5378

Thanks anyway for clearing it up.
