I'd be snagging a good number of them, if that were the case... Though $3 is a bit steep...

Forget the castle! I'm definetly getting this instead! I will give it a mini review from that tiny picture:

Pros: Dwarves, Orcs, Troll, Accesories, Mining carts and mechanism, Overall structure (way the set is designed).

Cons: Reuse of crappy octagonal KK2 shield.

I wonder how much it will cost USD?

Ah the minfig bins, that is a very good idea! Save me from getting this set which is not that appealing without the figs.

I really like the obvious alliance the dwarves have with the crown knights. The use of the same colors, yet different emblems and ROUND (woot!) shields is awesome.

I agree in that the set itself leaves something to be desired, but man, Lego seems to be heading in a direction that I like.

It seems that the set also has some kind of trap mechanism, if you look in the top right corner, with the big circular rock. Hmmm...

I'm actually a fan of the pillar and platform design as I see these as the support within the mine, not the rock so much itself. To look like rock, there'd have to be a lot of molded pieces (although that does sound cool now).

I can definitely dig up some BURPs for the set to make it appear as part of a mountin ... maybe knock it next to the dragon cave.

I'm fairly psyched for the goblins (mini orcs) too ... another faction .. very Terry Brooks to me ...

After further scrutiny, I've decided to refine my initial impression of "crappy":

The structure of the set seems to be an unholy hybrid of a juniorized city construction site and a fantasy era castle, midwifed by the less than stellar KK2.

Steve, who thinks that sounds almost poetic... :D

The set design is awful.
Except for the mining carts, it doesn't even look like a mine!
The big troll-like figure looks too juniorized for my tastes as does the overall look of the set. (looks very KK2  )

The dwarf minifigs are cool though and I like the winged helmet on the red-bearded dwarf. The new circular shields are nice as well.
I wonder what that golden bird statue is in the middle of the structure?

Let's hope the set is improved before its release, or at the least, hopefully some small sets are released that include the dwarf minifigs and their elements.

The bird statue is a Dwarf Helmet with wing things.

The helms on the dwarves (dwarfs) all appear the same unless I can get a picture with better resolution. That means the wings may be like plumes. I hope they are, and that the pegs are of the smaller variety like the classic helm plumeage.

I don't like the look of the set itself, but the dwarves (dwarfs, actually, in this case...) and maybe the green guys are cool.

The troll most definitely looks kinda Mega-Bloksy to me, and the green guys' swords are the most Mega Blok like piece I've ever seen from LEGO. They're hideous.

I'll probably get some dwarfs from somewhere, as they look great (I hope they have new faces and torsos); but there's no way I'm buying this. It looks terrible.

Not to be too downbeat, but I think that's probably wildly optimistic! If they are not an integral part of the helmet, I'd say it's most likely they use full size pegs like horns do. On the plus side, this would mean they can be used on Viking helms. Going by the complete absence of plumes in the new Castle knights, despite them having old-style helms with the peg-holes, I'd say the old-style peg connector is gone :(
Kev wrote:First impression is that I'm disappointed by the "pillar & platform" route they went with on the structure. I think with the dwarf mining theme it would have been waaay cooler to see 2-3 of those big rock pieces in brown on each side of the mine car entrance, to give it more of a moutain appearance.
Personally I think the pillar and platform approach works better for this set than others where its been used. Sure we're missing the rock walls (at least on the top two levels), but the platforms do look like mining scaffold inside tunnels, or on the side of a cavern, cliff-face, or a combination of all. The impression I think is good, much more than can be said for pillar-and-platform castles.
