Wouldnt you guys like to see what the castle 2007 designers could do with say a 300 price limit, and 3,000 bricks to work with?

Sure i'd have to skimp on groceries but i'd so buy something like that!

Even a beefed up King's castle for 150 would be very interesting. The point is that i'd like to see what the lego guys would produce if the only concern was to make a great castle. <or at least the main concern.>

I've always entertained a dream of minifig-scale castles as the equivalent of the Star Wars UCS line. I suppose that castles don't have the same collectors value as Star Wars does, and the price range would have to exclude kids. Of course, we might get something like the UCS Millenium Falcon, an infinite-budget building spree with a $500+ price tag and fifty minifigs. Perhaps if I start saving now I'll manage to get one by the time it comes out

It seems to me that lego could do something like this on a limited release. I'm thinking of the castle that was put out last summer. (Someone help me with the set name?) Anyway if lego did something like that only larger/better it would fulfill what we are looking for. This should only really cost some designer time, as it could be done with stock parts.

Why not design the castle yourself? If you took the money you would spend on this set and go to bricklink you could find what you need. Spend some time on the web and you'll see some "high-end" sets built by some of the more prominant builders here if you need some ideas. Building one's own MOC castle is just as if not more fun than letting some one else plan it out. But that's my two cents.

Tower is right, but I'd still really like a UCS castle because:
1 It could be a great, cheap source of castle-building parts.
2 I'd like to see what a Lego designer could do if allowed to run wild - It'd be great to see a castle version of Cafe Corner.

Yes, the best way for a UCS Castle to work out would be for LEGO sets made in the scale of Robert Carney's castles (or at least close to it). Have thousands of pieces, mostly bricks, and sell them as a huge Castle set.

Unless they decided to make more "structured" versions of regular Castle sets. As in not using those "castle wall" pieces or those "juniorized" parts and have it as an "all-brick and plate" set. Like the good ol' days.

Part of the appeal coming from the UCS line is the complexity of the models. If LEGO were to produce a UCS themed castle product, I wouldn't simply want an oversized set or a tub. I would want a product that went beyond what we traditionally expect. The Cafe Corner and similar sets are made appealing because they are so well constructed.

Personally, I would want to see a fortified manor home, city gate or some other such element built to UCS detail. The structure should be something that can be built for $200-300, which would make a complete castle unfeasible. Remember, the UCS sets aren't simply about size. Quality counts too.

I saw the UCS line as neither of those. I beleive the main intent was to produce LEGO models that would not only appeal to LEGO fans but Star Wars collectors who would not buy LEGO otherwise. The lisence appeal of the Star Wars UCS models far outweigh the appeal of a castle-themed UCS line to anyone but fans of both LEGO and Castle, while it would not likely be purchase by fans of either castle or LEGO.

We've seen a number of similar models pop up that have nothing to do with Star Wars. These include the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the Hobby Train, the Eiffel Tower, the and the Corner Cafe to name a few. Most of these products are fan-oriented, using no new elements, yet it would seem that they have met with some success.

I would very much doubt that LEGO would consider doing more than one set in the vein of the UCS line for the castle theme. I do agree that a minifig scaled historical building would be great though. Afterall, the Millennium Falcon is a UCS set with minifigs. Honestly, I would be expecting something very similar to the Corner Cafe if LEGO were to decide to do something like this.

If we were to compare it to something AFOL made, I think that one of Stuifzand's castles would be pretty close to what we might expect.

I think aswell that a castle would appeal to more people than a plane... come to think of it, most of the UCS stuff for star wars is stuff like star destroyers, death star, things that couldnt be accurately represented in minifig scale at all, but then again we see yoda made to real scale... so i guess castle would be possible.

are you saying that if there was a UCS minifig scale castle to the same standard as say the cafe corner, you wouldnt want to buy it/own it?
you could say that about all lego to be honest but if I wanted Kings castle seige (which i do) I wouldnt go on BL and buy all the peices seperately, no matter if it was cheaper or not.

Someone in the know (an ambassador maybe? I can't quite recall) said that there is going to be a special surprise for the end of '08. A UCS Castle perhaps?
