Definately needed a slanted roof.
I also think roofs look better, if the slanted bricks overlap the wall by one-stud. Whereas, plate roofs, should be on the inside of the wall.
As for finishing the roof, just put some plates on it and you'll be ok. This can help you out, if you have a roof in a color that doesn't have the top bricks.
