Backstory: This once-barren island was discovered by a group of sea-faring monks, who liked the remote location, and labored hard to construct a new monastery there. However, they soon realized the need for a lighthouse in the area, and incorporated a large tower to shine a light for other travelers - to show them the way.
Sailors without hope can find refuge in this medieval lighthouse. The fires burn brightly, and warm men's souls.

Simply awesome, Nelson! I am really so glad you entered this contest & with such an excellent creation. I really like the 1x1 plate technique & that is some fantastic landscaping.
Thanks, Aaron. Stacking 1x1 plates in alternating rows of different angles made for a difficult build, but it gives a very nice texture. I also came up with a way to bend 1x pieces to make a curved wall, but it proved too big to use in this MOC.

I am usually not a fan of mini castle but I like this one a lot. I like how you did the dock and the boat looks very good. Excellent use of 1x1's as well.

Wow, that's a great MOC. I really like the texturing with the slightly skewed plates--probably more so in the straight walls of the main keep where it's more subtle than in the tower. The technique reminds me of that great fisherman's hut by ____ (Holger Matthes? Ben Fleskes? grr, I'm totally drawing a blank). I'm glad to see you entering another contest. Once again, the mini castle contest brought out a lot of great creations.
I'm not sold on the texturing (makes me think of a little kid who didn't push the bricks tightly together) but it is interesting. I think it looks best on the church, but I'm not liking how it looks on the tower. I'm not sure why. How is it done on the church?
I do like the cheese slope roof, especially combined with the teeth bricks.
Very, very nice! Great work! I've also been experimenting with rounded towers lately, and was looking at the 1x1 plates, but that technique is much more suited to this scale. Great wharf and ship as well!
