Market District- the entrance/exit to the city (CCCV Entry)

Post by RichardAM »

Spurred on by the fact that all the cool kids seem to be doing likewise, this is one of my MOCs for the CCCV contest! This MOC in particular is for the Miscellaneous category.

It was built before the exposition of the Misc Category ruling, so rather unfortunately it is confined to a 48x48 baseplate. A blessing in disguise really as i'm out of grey! But either way, this is but one bit of the city wall- a cross section if you will of the city itself, and one of it's many entrances. I've tried to show this by having the wall seemingly continue in places, and that's why there's no end battlements etc.

The pictures themselves have better descriptions over at Flickr, and now that this has been posted, no further edits will be made-i'm working om something else anyway! That said, comments, opinions and ideas for future builds are always appreciated.

I love the little market stalls. How did you do the roofs on them? Did you just use slope bricks? When I do that, mine always look too blocky/heavy.

Those walls are nice. I like em bare. Big gray walls are far more realistic than detailed ones.

Just two weeks in, and I think we have a potential category winner. Excellent work! I really like the details that are put in. I especially am a fan of the way that the big, grey walls contrast with the brightness of the market stalls as well as the realistic landscaping. Excellent job, once again.

It's kind of a contrast to my entry from last year. In 2006 my walls were covered in everything from tan to dark bley. There's bit of dark-grey here and there, but i've tried not to throw in every colour like I did last year.

Very cool, I love the market stalls!
After a long absence, I have returned. I can't wait to start building again.

Everything looks realistic. I love the market scenes the best. Good work.

A very nice scene with a perfect amount of detail. Nice colour choices as well. Lee.

At last the entries have started to roll in. I like this scene a lot. My only complaint is that you should have made the gate entrance larger or made it more prominent form the rest of the wall in some way. Excellent moc.

Yeah that's a good suggestion actually.

It's only when i'm actually building that I notice pieces I need or don't have enough of. Maybe I just need to start thinking ahead more often?

Thanks again.

I like this alot. In fact, I WANT THIS! I agree about the big gray wall, in that it really works here. I can just imagine how much fun an entire castle that this could belong to would be. Good luck.

Yeah, but that's something i'll be doing once the contest is over I think, as with last year's contest. Thanks for the interest though.

I really like the look of this. Its got my creative juices going for other bazaar type scenes. Very well done. I love the contrast of the stall roof colors and the grey wall. It makes it look that much more intimidating.

Very nice job :) I agree a gatehouse would be nice, but nonetheless it's a great scene. The colours are awesome.
