Look at this guy, he's dual wielding a sword and a spear! He's amazing!

Oh my, you really made me laugh there, rogue27. Dry humour is so very much a love of mine!

But yeah this set is pretty shabilly designed, despite the character's mad duel-wielding skills. Then again, what can you expect from a fright knight set? :D

I agree with most of you that the set design is nothing to write home about.

On the other hand, when was the last time you could buy 27 pieces for one euro/dollar? Even if half of them are useful, that is not too bad a deal, is it?

best regards,
Stefan

I happen to like the Knights Kingdom figures. The greater variety of colors was open to customization , in colors like dark green and light blue, for example. The early Space series was full of "rainbow" figures, but none complained about them, did they?I would say, though, the Fright Knights line was the most disappointing, to me, tied with Insectoids.......Thanks.

Oh, I disagree with your Vladerk and Mathias comment, because I liked them, but yeah, the jellybeans are terrible.

it looks like the first ever jetplane... the wing has broken off... and he tries to fix it with a sword in his other hand :? this could be a NGC seconds from disaster episode :D

5994 was useful for the brown 4 finger round brick. Now you can just get it with catapult thing...

I never got it why the fright knights wanted to build an airforce...

For me the flying batlord set 2848 was a better set then the other shell promotional flying batlord set 2539 at least it contained traditional weapons. I passed on buying the witch ship:

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?O=2539-1

I don’t think the fright knights theme was that bad you just have to accept the magical/dragon/witch castle premise?

For me the fright Knights contained good minifigure torso designs, it was KK2 that I disliked, the use of soft pastel colours and jelly bean minifigures.

The colour combinations in the fright Knights (Black, Brown, Dark Grey, Light Grey with red and yellow highlights) were actually as good as anything that came before them in my opinion.

The worst castle set in my mind:

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?S=8801-1

What that assault ship powered by diesel?

Not to sound totally anti KK2 I think the last sets like battle of the Pass and Rogue Knight Battleship and the blending of KK2 and KK1 elements in Royal King's Castle were good.

I think that the Fright Knights weren't bad as a whole, especially compared to KK2. For me they contributed some really useful torsos, shields (the only KK2 shield I like is Jayko's), bats, chains, brown spears, short swords, helmets (minus the overuse of the bat lord), a witch, a black dragon, a broom, a cat, a crystal ball. All useful things in my opinion, even if a lot of the designs were crazy.

That is just... wow. Awful doesn't begin to describe it.

That's bad. The flying witch ship looks like a classic compared to this thing.

I think someone at LEGO got their hands on some extra pieces from other sets and tried to mix them altogether in one cheap little set. (The guy has a cool helmet though :) and the bat is a nice touch.)

I thought the Fright Knights were dreadful; I remember looking at the 1997 catalogue and being quite shocked at what I saw, and to this day I can't bring myself to like them. They may have some useful elements but overall I consider them to be a failure - their sets are wacky, unrealistic and generally ridiculous. The crystal ball powered 'flying machine' is an example of this. I would argue that it was the Fright Knights that killed Castle, and good quality Castle didn't really return until about 2005.

Of course, it's in old grey, so I guess it's automatically good

Some of the torsos are okay, and the equipment (swords shields helms, as someone has already mentioned) we all good, but everything else was mental

Don't forget Vikings. And anyway, what was so bad about KK2 in 2005? At the time most people generally had praise for the Fortress set. Granted the year wasn't perfect at all but I think it's the first time since the mid nineties that you start to see real effort being put into the sets.
