Interesting comment from employee at Lego store

Post by erikstormtrooper »

A couple of weeks ago I was at the Lego store in Downtown Disney (Orlando).

I noticed they had some old grey 4x3 slopes in one of the PAB bins, as well as a bag of old grey 1x1 plates in the sale section. So I decided to ask an employee if there were any more old grey pieces that maybe I hadn't seen.

The employee told me that I would have to check for myself in the bins, but he added that the colors used in Legos change EVERY YEAR. He said this is done so that it's easy to tell how old the bricks are.

Where do they get these people from?

Congrats on finding some old grey bits - The slopes especially! I'm jealous of those. The 1x1 packs are leftover from the old mosaic sets, and there's still lots to be had around.

Some LEGO Store employees want to work in a LEGO store: They love LEGO themselves, many of them are also AFOL's and know a lot about the brick. For others it's merely a job and they couldn't care less.

While it's certainly not a true rumour, I'd guess it's a product of the grey/bley/brown changes, the moulding process changes & and the misinjection of dye to some colours.

LOL, did he really say that??? wow, alright, well what you probably ran into was someone who had it explained to him once, he immediately forgot, then when asked the question, sort of made up an answer that sort of sounded like what he'd heard before.

yeah, thats about as wrong as can be. can you imagine if they really changed the color every year? Cataloguing and dating the bricks would be an entire other hobby.

High school, and without interest in LEGO because they're "too old" for it and it's "not cool" to like LEGO.

I poke my head in and out. I'm currently working on a castle at home so I like the inspiration.
