Yeah, someone said 20$, but being an Exclusive I highly doubt it...

One of the first things I thought was "turn it on its side: instant tower." Indeed, with some modifications, you could have a quaint little fortification. Add another two "wheels" and you'd have a pretty awesome tower. You could decouple the wheels, and use the resulting spans as awesome hanging bridges. The possibilities for this set are endless!

Eh, if it's 20 dollars, I'd get it. Seem like a good deal; lots of 2x6 brown plates, and that always is a must and need at my building zone. Plus the crown knights. I was thinking about buying 3 more of the crossbow cart because of the number of troops; I only have 6 or so of them

If those are the final production instructions, the reuse of the Undead armor for the Orcs is disappointing.

Edit--
However, after a closer look at the 2008 Castle Poster near the end of the document, I do still see new armor on the Orc in the boat.... So who knows, perhaps the Battle-Wheel went to production before the new ones were ready, much like the lack of new Orc helms in the Dwarf Mine.

Based on the instructions, this set has 511 (give or take) parts, which should firmly place it in the $50 range.

Or $35.

The Avatar Fortress had 400 parts at $30, and the Avatar Fire Ship had 700 pieces at $50; both were licensed product with a % of those prices fixed to pay Nick.

I expect good things.

Probably because LEGO doesn't take kindly to reproductions of their material until after it has stopped being available at retail. They may have contacted the originator of the image and served them with a cease and desist order.

Besides, I think it's against the "Respect The Brick" policy or what have you particular to this site, and likely should be removed anywho.

Based on the "size" of the set, as well as taking into account the brick count, I would anticipate something more in the 35 or 40 euro/dollars range.

From those instructions it seems like all the 2x6 plates are black. As an armybuilder it lacks shields, so I don't really see a reason for buying this, unless you have a need for spears that is.

Yeah after posting I looked at the instructions. Eh, it's ok. But the complete circle x4 will be useful for lots of spacers... if they buy the set.

Seriously though it looks like a fun set. Kids will want it and Lego will make a lot of money.
I agree completely. TLC is onto a winner with this set. Kids - and boys in particular - will love mowing down minifigs with the oversized wheels. When one of the orc (or troll) runners gets killed and the thing goes out of control leading to mayhem, kids will love it even more.
Athos wrote:I'm curious about the copyright issues. I'm not convinced there is any intellectual property rights in the term orc.
And you're right: there are no IP rights in the term "orc". In fact, IP does not subsist in any name. During Tolkien's lifetime, many of the names he invented such as "Shadowfax" and "Rivendell" were used without permission for non-fantasy products and places. Much to his annoyance, there was nothing he could do to stop it. More recently, J.K. Rowling used names created by other authors in her HP books including "Dumbledore" and "muggles".

It's the execution of a concept that's subject to IP. As it happens, there are no IP rights in the orc concept with or without the orc name. Back in the 1970's, D&D used orcs more-or-less as described by Tolkien (both in name and general description) without objection by the Tolkien estate. The estate was aware of D&D's use of "orc".

The representation of a name can also be protected if the name is shown in a distinctive way, usually as part of a logo, e.g. the word "LEGO" as depicted in fat, white letters on a red background in TLC's logo, or the golden arches "M" used by McDonald's. This is called trademarking. A superscrypt "TM", or "R" within a circle, next to a name indicates that it's a trademark.

The Battle Wheel is out.

I got mine at Toys R Us in Chattanooga, TN for $39.99. I'll build it tomorrow night, and hopefully let you all in on the details... with pictures? 508 parts and 6 minifigures seemed worth it to me. I'm especially happy that the all of the Knight faction foot soldiers are represented in this set. I cannot wait for a TRU BOGO sale. I will STOCK UP!!

Happy hunting!
