I think that with the coming of the elves, we will see the close of the Fantasy Era....era. But I'm also of the opinion that we will be seeing a good bit more of everything before the end. LEGO has released Crownie and Skelly battle packs, why not orcs and dwarves and elves? Seeing as the existing battle packs are as popular as they are, LEGO is sure to release new battle packs with different factions.

Now that I've said that, I have a question: How many people think the witch (as seen in the upcoming advent calendar and chess set) will be the foe of the elves?

And another one while I'm at it: How many people think LEGO will add an elf to the advent calendar as a sort of "preview of things to come"?
May the blessing of the Lord be upon you. <><

I agree, I think the wich will be, I sort of thought the same thing, only thing left is 2 figure out what thier rivals wil b.

And it's possible that they might stick an Elf in there.
who ever finds the Golden Sword of the ancient Kings is just a lucky person.

maybe they will it may not be in the advent calander because they are not releveling much 8). plus there will be more skelleton and ogre sets
meaning they will out number all the elves, humans, dwarves so it will be a even fight.

I am going to try to write this post as if I worked for TLC and not as a fan. Has fantasy run it's course. I highly doubt it. As far as I can tell these things are selling like hotcakes. I expect another season of dwarves and trolls with the elves starting in like the dwarves are now. I don't think they are gonna dump the elves on us, as some have mentioned and/or wished. They are going to tease and drip them on the community like the dwarves have been for the last 9 months. Then the next years (fall 2009, spring 2010) release will see the elves as the major faction with a sprinkling of others skeles, dwarves, crownies, trolls and maybe some new faction. I don't see any major changes until 2011 at the earliest.

Personally I hope they stay in this theme. It has brought newfound life to castle. Some are mentioning KK2 and not wanting to return to that era. KK2 was not the doom of castle. The demise of castle came much ealier with the fright knights and KK1. Castle had been struggling for many years until late. I can't imagine TLC which is a company that wants to make money abandoning this theme any time soon. Sorry for those who don't like fantasy but I do expect some very useful castle parts in the meantime as they like to please the classic crowd too. There are really no shortages of figures and factions for the humans in the castle theme. If there is any shortage at all it is with civilian figures in castle. Hence the jester, and peasant in the advent calender. I wouldn't be surprised by some civilian building popping up in the near future to placate the classic crowd while the fantasy theme continues its course. I hope they come up with a couple of cool mountain fortresses to face off with trolls and dwarves next year. We all could make some great castles out of those parts I'm sure.

As was said earlier... Long live castle.

I agree with you that fantasy castle will likely be around for several years. My point was that any LEGO Castle theme usually lasts 3-4 years and then is significantly changed.

I do think that the selection of knight structures in the current lineup is weak. The Kings Castle Siege is a very nice set, but the other towers and docks are average. Our community definitely has fans who mainly like fantasy or realistic castle. Many fans like both side of castle.

My hope is that the Knight faction will be equally well represented with good designs and elements in the retail castle line. At the current time, I do not think that it is. As you pointed out, adding civilians such as jesters and peasants are an excellent step to make fans happy.

Castle Never Dies!

Post by Bandit »

Castle Never Dies! (But it may come close) LEGO seems to be running dry of castle ideas. But I think that due to popular request, near 2011 or 2012, LEGO will release 675 Yellow Castle as a LEGO Legend. We can almost taste it in LEGO future, more Legends are a-comin! (I hope) So, in conclusion, let us pray for the best of LEGO :D and the downfall of rival Megabloks  !
Question: Why do we drive in PARKways and park in DRIVEways?

I highly doubt that any Legends will be made in the future. The Legends series was discontinued because many of the sets did not sell well. (Of course several of the non-Castle Legend sets were poor choices). Various LEGO officials have said that there aren't any plans to make legends. This is not to say that LEGO could not make Castle Legends in the future, but it is highly unlikely.

Me too. I was not collecting when they released them which is sad as I would have gotten several of each of the castle ones. Black Falcon's Fortress is still one of my favorite castle sets. Sad to hear that they did not do well. I wish they still had some kicking around.... I'd take them off their hands.

It is interesting to note that the legends did not sell well. I suppose there are only so many collectors out there. I wonder what percentage of lego the AFOLs buy up and what percentage are more casual buyers and children/parents.

Was it the Castle Legends specifically that didn't sell well or just Legends from other themes? Because like Ben said some of the 'Legends' were less than inspired choices. I remember being told that the Castle Legends sold well, and if they were available again I would gladly buy them.
