New Decals For The Castlers

Howdy Castlers!

Well, for the longest time my pro account on Flickr has run out, limiting me to just 200 photos. But the other day I finally payed for another year and got my pictures back!

So, since I can upload photos freely again, I've decided to share with you some decals I've had kicking about for a little bit.

New-Style Forestman, Red Collar:

-Green-
-Sand Green-
-Red-
-Orange-
-White-
-Tan-
-Dark Flesh-
-Light Grey-
-Light Bley-
-Dark Grey-
-Dark Bley-

It's a pretty basic design, but just with a newer twist.

-Quartered '08 Crownie-

-Quartered Dwarf-

I quite like this variation. While the symbol would most certainly be covered by a beard, it's a perfect torso design for your short haired Dwarves.

Basic Quartered Tunics:

-Blue & White-
-Brown & White-
-Green & White-
-Orange & White-
-Sand Green & White-
-Red & White-

This is one of my favorites. I'm hoping to put together a few knights with this design fairly soon, if I find the time.

Islander Shield Variations:

-Standard-
-Red & Black-
-Possible Goblin Variation-

I know, not the most favored shield design out there. Especially in the world of castle. But the variaion could possibly be of some use.

Excellent stuff again. I like the Basic Quartered Tunics the best. Now, you make these in MS Paint if I remember correctly? My daughter (Kairyai here in the forums) wants to start to play around with designs.

I really liked the way those tunics turned out as well. Plus, I made them so I could use them on a white torso (Which I have plenty of, and means I can use my clear water-slide decal paper for them), which means there's a high chance of me being able to put them to good use.

I actually design my decals in the program Paint.NET, which I found last year. It's free to download (The site was www.getpaintdotnet or something like that), so you might want to have your daughter try that out. Might be a tad tricky to figure out right at first, but I'm sure she'd pick up on it rather quickly after playing around with it some.

I haven't toyed around with decals yet. I size the stickers I want on a Word doc, and print on glossy photo sticker paper. I have some decal paper, and a Canon MF8180 color laser printer. Is it as simple as printing on that instead of the sticker paper, or is there some special setup I need to know for decals?

These are really nice and I like the color variations. Cool idea with the Islander shields too IMO. =)

Hi Amanda, Good designs!!!! Glad that you have found some time to make some great decals. How about doing some decals for this version of medieval wear

You either use a grey or green collar, let the tunic colours be red, blue, medium blue, green, tan, brown, black, purple, orange and white while using Anthony Sava's "Tattered Garb" as a reference

To further enhance the look, i suggest removing the centre line and the half moon curve on the tunic plus the patch on the right side of the collar.

The various forestman / peasant torsos are very nice. I especially like the quartered designs.

Great decal designs, the matching colors are great! My favorite is sand green & white basic tunics.

Excellent work as usual Amanda! I really like the "quartered" designs you made. It reminds me of going to the Medieval Times restaurant in SC or the Rennassiance fair I used to frequent. I could see these being used in many MOC's.

I use inkjet decal paper myself, but I don't think the setup should be much different in your case. When printing Water-slide Decals, I just go about it pretty much the same way I would if printing on sticker paper:

Set the printer to "Best" print quality, and set what kind of paper you are using (I choose "Other Specialty Paper" when using Water-slide).

Yes. Free accounts on Flickr only allow you to have 200 photos uploaded at a time. If you go over this limit, old pictures will be bumped off the list (However, if you sign up for a Pro Account, you will have access to all of your pictures once again.).

I'll think about doing the others, but am not making any promices, as I've been trying to put a cap on requests as of late, since they have really tied me up in the past (That is, decal requests, and custom orders).

I like working at my own pace. Makes it more fun, and less of a chore IMO.

Those quartered torsos seem to be a hit. I'm glad everybody enjoys them as much as I do!

Dumb question:

How do you print them so they come out the "right" size to just stick them to a minifig?

I've heard of a lot of people re-sizing them in Word or something like that.

I usually just open the decal in The Gimp and set the print size to 0.6". Then they print out nice and crisp.
