Helm's Deep Model
Hi Guys,
I have built a realatively big Helm's Deep model. Kind of castle like I think.

This thing is really cool. I love the walls. The details look really nice. The only things I would change are the stairs in the front and the cross shaped arrow slits. I would make the stairs into a ramp. The cross arrow slits I would changes to straight arrow slits. Overall it's great though.

really nice probably one of the bests helm's deeps I've ever seen. Its great how you used the same brick pattern on the deeping wall as you did on the hornburg- it ties the structures together nicely.
The ramp definatly needs some working on though- its much to light and unfinished looking compared to the rest of the structure.

Beautiful, a true work of art. I love it, and am unsure why exactly, but here are a few reasons.
Colour. Between landscaping and slight design additions, you’ve managed to give this place enough colours that it stands above most Helm's Deeps you see. The water, the trees, the garden, and the house all take the edge off all that grey.
Landscape. Unlike some, you didn't just stop with the castle, but built enough of the surrounding landscape to complete the MOC. You gave a rock face to both sides, an uncommon occurrence, and gave the valley floor a slight dip, both excellently done.
Big Grey Wall Syndrome. Or rather, the lack of it. You did a great job creating changes in the walls, so as to avoid that boring look.
As to the stairs, I understand completely your reasoning. Believe me, I applaud anybody who doesn't try to match the movie. I applaud even more those who don't even think about the movie, but that's a bit off-topic. As much as I like your stairs, there is a certain aesthetic appeal to them, I have to say that they could not have existed. No fortress frequented by horses would use stairs as a means of getting in. And those stairs just would not hold up to the stress of battle. But still a cool idea. As is the entire MOC, a true work of art.

Hey Eggy,
Great MOC! My favorite aspect is how you continued the pattern of bricks and cylinders into the straight part of the wall without making the patterned-ness overwhelm the whole structure. Very cool.

Actually, the book gives the impression that there is a ramp. I can't remember if the actual word ramp is used, but I know for sure that it is refered to as a causeway- and theoden leads a charge on horseback down it.eggplant wizard wrote:hmm, personally the stairs are one of my favorite parts. My goal is not to match the movie, and one of the things I didn't like from the movie was the ramp.
But the main reason I don't like it is that I don't think it matches the aesthetics of the rest of the fort. The rest of the construction is quite heavy and solid looking, while the stairs are very light- being held up by a series of columns with spaces in between the treads.
I think I would at least put arches to connect the columns and give the treads a bit more bulk.

Wow, this is sweet! Probably the best Helm's Deep I've ever seen. You're the only pesron I know who created water for the sewage drain. Great detail!

Very nice! I love it. I would just get rid of the cross shaped arrow slits, and make the hornburg taller. Great model;fantastic!
