Psyched

Post by deathdog1 »

Brought wife and kid to Chicago on a three-day vacation to hit musuems, etc and as an added bonus they're taking me to the LEGO store. I've never been to one -- will it have a "bargain bin" or pick-a-brick area? There are certain bricks/colors/accessories that I've been looking for, so I'm just curious. Of course, even if there isn't I still get to go to LEGO shop, which means I'll really be jazzed to finish my movie set in the land of Glomshire when we get home.

They should have Pick-a-Brick wall. And possibly $2.99 build-a-minifig (fill those hands with accessories!!!)

A pick a brick tub would run you $100.

If you don't see the PAB part you want, ask the people working there. They can bring out boxes of parts from the back room. They also told me they can just sell you a box from the back room full of a single piece for 100 too, but you could probably dump it all into your PAB tub and then some.

Have fun!

Just went to my first Lego store near Houston yesterday. Peppermint Pig, thanks for the tip on the Pick-a-Brick wall - might be helpful in the future.

deathdog1 - my mind was blown with an overload of Lego awesomeness. Be careful.

I live nowhere near a Lego store... only been to one once, but I went prepared, and learned a lot also. Was a 6 hour drive, round trip.

They don't let people into the back room. They won't even take photographs of what the back room looks like for you. That's my experience anyways. :)

You can't ask them to tell you what they have in the back room either. You can only ask, and they can go and see if they have it... lol.

I took the time to really pack the green PAB tub as full as I could when my brother and I went.

Oh, and yes, they should have some sets on sale.

The pick-a-brick tub was discontinued awhile ago; before I needed to buy a couple thousand 2x4 white bricks (which go in a cup so well :? ). Now that their intended use is over, maybe I'll build a white castle (not the burger joint).

I thought they were replacing the tubs with a smaller sized one? Is that not the case?

If that is the case they haven't made the change yet. Right now you only have two sizes of cups to choose from.

During Brickworld they had a larger box size which was (if I remember correctly) $150. I don't know how big the old tubs were but I would guess that the new box is actually bigger on account of the increased price. Also I don't know if this is the new system they're changing to or if it was a Brickworld special; but if it's the former, you can reasonably expect the Chicago stores to have it.

Yep, two cup sizes. I got one of the bigger ones and crammed it as full as I could with the best bits available. Talked to one of the shopkeepers to see if any good stuff was in the back (I was specific in my requests). I intended on just getting the large cup and the Knight impulse set, but the wife went behind me and snagged some of the Coast Guard sets and the firefighter pickup as well as a Goblin impulse. (Happy birthday, dog!) I was able to score (I hope) enough grey bricks to finish the Glomshire exterior sets. Thanks for the tips gang!

My wife suddenly said we are going to Legoland here in the UK soon. I am pretty excited. Any idea if they do PaB in their store there? If so all this post will be very useful...

DD,

Nice haul! Happy building.
