Thoughts on Rock Monsters?

Post by Reiniger »

Hey all. I was thinking about getting a dwarf and a chain and having him ride one of the rock monsters from the Rock Raiders. What with the fantasy elements in Castle now, I figured a dwarf wizard could have some kind of pet elemental or golem, no problem. Reading around, though, I get the impression that the rock monsters don't have a lot of love. Thoughts?

Go for it. I think I have read in some fantasy books such things but I see no problem with it even if not.

Who cares about "some fantasy books"? If it looks cool, sounds cool or feels cool, then it's cool. And in this case it sounds very, very cool. Need I say more?

The rock monster doesn't get much love because of his lack of posability - he's frozen in place, except for one arm. But he looks pretty cool, so I say go for it!

The rock monster is a great earth golem figure. Sure it is kind of static, but I also thought it would be a good large mount with some steering chains and crossbows for my Bulls & Bats evil faction back in 2000. The raised arm does a fine job of becoming a mobile catapult arm for flinging large boulders too. Makes an interesting army addition if you believe in magic for your troops.

I'm not sure if he has a place for a rider. I can't remember, if his back is studless.

He has studs. Two sets of 2x1 studs in the back.

I would definately go for it. D&D fans will recognize it as a earth elemental; whether summoned by a Wizard or not. Dwarves, with their affinity for rock and stone, would be a logical counter part.

Dwarven Wizards, even though their concept runs against traditional D&D thinking, is a great idea that I have used with my dwarven factions as well. I'm glad I'm not the only LEGO fan that uses them.

I built a small scene with a Rock Monster a couple of weeks ago, but haven't posted it. No rider but he actually looks pretty good. You should go for it. Show all those people who lack the "love" what can be done.

Thanks for the feedback, all. I'm going for it - Rock Monster, dwarf (with axe? goblet? who knows!), and chain, and I'm good to go. I'll put up pics if it turns out ok.

Rock monsters? Wow, that's from a while back. I hardly remember what it looks like. Does anyone have a picture, or know where I can see it?
