I love lime green and orange, but the pieces are too "Duplo" for me. You can hardly tell that the vehicles are made out of multiple pieces. The Duplofication of LEGO must be stopped!
Okay, it's mainly just that theme. But still.
If I wanted a playset, I'd buy a playset. I buy LEGO because I like to be able to make more than just one thing. You really can't, with any of those sets.

I collect LEGO themes that start with "C." And Pirates. I call them "Corsairs."

OK, THIS seriously has to be the cutest piece of ABS LEGO has ever produced
Other than that I'll just say that these sets really don't interest me...

Any idea if the rock monster arms are compatible with the standard minifig torso, and if the standard arms fit the rock monster torso?

It looks OK. Not my dish of tea perhaps.... even the rock monsters just look OK to me. Now the large drill tank has one piece that looks interesting to me. The main body piece on the bottom looks like a medium sized ship hull almost.... anyone seen this bit before? Are there ends bits for it as well? Might make a nice ship.... sadly in lime green but still interesting part.

Interesting. I could see these, for instance, in a custom fig of the Thing from the Fantastic Four. I'm always interested in changes to the basic minifig parts. As I see it, we've had:Foamrider wrote:From this picture, it would appear as that would work: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=3565449
Heads:
Original smiley
Minor change in molding from the closed stud to the open stud
Introduction of specialized faces, now too numerous to recount here
Introduction of printing on both sides for alternating expression, or all around the head (e.g. Spidey)
Changes in colors (including fleshies)
Molded heads, largely (wholey) introduced for licensed themes
Torsos:
Originally no arms, then the arms
Minor changes to the molding to add some support inside
Of course numerous changes to patterns
More recently patterns on both sides
Arms:
Pretty much still the original design, after the first armless figures
A very limited number of figs with printing on the arm (Boba Fett, others?)
Special arms for the basketball players
Cyborg arm for the Agents line
This new rock monster arm mold
Hands:
Pretty much the original hand still in use
changes in color
Pirate hook hand
Legs:
Original single piece
Legs that move, still largely in use
Pirate peg-leg
Stubbies
Spring-loaded for basketball
Some legs with printing
Fishtail for mer-people
What am I missing?

Is that an orange mudguard? *unhealthy love for orange* Maybe this means they'll have lime ones like the joker ice cream truck had... ( I didn't get that set so it'd be a shame not to see them used more... ). I've built some great things with that piece, both physically and with the Lego Digital designer, particularly space ship designs.
The most common problem with most Lego sets lately is the sparseness of part quantity in exchange for specialized elements. In that way, Power Miners is similar to Exo Force. The most apparent of elements here is the wheel design, but they incorporate it into the drill in another color. They go too far away from basic geometric shapes (arches, slopes, and other things which should be seen in greater supply!).
I have little bad to say about fairing elements actually, and I like the lime used in airplane hull type pieces in the large Power Miners set.
The torso designs and faces are appealing to me and I could imagine buying a few sets for myself.
Bruce, although it's a tangent, there's the advent of skeletons, which have head neck studs. Or female minifigs using slopes as dresses. The latter not necessarily an innovation for the minifig, though I believe that was the first intent, since it was a smooth slope and not a rough one.
Can't think of anything else.

Are you including modifications on the torso, such as for skeletons?Bruce N H wrote:Interesting. I could see these, for instance, in a custom fig of the Thing from the Fantastic Four. I hadn't really thought of skellies, as they're in a bit of a separate class (with martians, droids, etc.) that aren't really interchangeable with figs (except the heads, of course). Slopes as skirts is a good addition. Any idea when that was first introduced?

The cool thing is, we got to play with these rock monsters and some more Power Miners stuff in october at a closed meeting with Jan Beyer and the designer of Power Miners, Marc Stafford, with a bunch of members of De Bouwsteen and Lowlug. Of course the first thing everyone tried was a minifigure compatibility, and the arms are interchangable, the rock monster arms look very cool on minifigs, and minifig arms look very cute on the rock monsters, makes it look like a kid on halloween eveningBruce N H wrote:Any idea if the rock monster arms are compatible with the standard minifig torso, and if the standard arms fit the rock monster torso?

Also, a minifigure can stand in the rock monster: The upper jaw opens up to a vertical position and a minifig's legs fit into the lower jaw/belly, it looks absolutely hilarious, like the rock monster is gobbling up the fig

Between plotting to kill you all and chasing balls of yarn, I also build MOCs

The minifigs, rock monsters, diamonds, and new dynamite mold are the only things that have interested me so far. I'll most likely pick up to the 2 cheapest sets or something when they come out.
