I came across another 2 today and picked them up for just over $100 with tax. This kinda surprised me since I had picked up the only two on the shelf the day before Thanksgiving... almost a week later 2 more appear!

There aren't any kids to feel bad for in Lafayette, Indiana. I bought 4 KCS's before November 28th, leaving 3 sets of the shelves. Today they still had 2 sets for $50 each. The parents had their chance, so I bought the last 2. I suppose that Wal-Mart could've had more in the back that they put out after the Nov. 28th rush. It seemed really odd to me that the $100 set with $50 off was still in stock at Wal-Mart, while the $100 set with $40 off was wiped out at Target.

you see, not all lego sets are created equal. SW lego sets do sell better than the rest. it's not so much the price point but more the content.

as for walmart "hording", that has been my experience as well but i wouldn't call it hording but more "lazy." you see, the staff are really lazy when it come to re-stocking the shelves. so it is quite possible that you think something sold out only to have it magically appear a week later. you can try talking to the staff if you do not find it on the shelves but most of the time they just tell you if it's not there then it's out of stock. best to check with a student temping there or with the manager.

Agreed. I LOVE castle Lego. Always have, always will. It was my favorite theme when I was a kid. But I also love Star Wars. With the MASSIVE popularity of SW, I would expect SW Lego to out sell castle every time. I picked up the castle and the ISD from Target for my son this Christmas. I'm anxious to see which he's more excited about. We've been building the Advent calendar together, and he keep saying, "We should get that castle, too" or "I wish we could build that castle, too". Nearly brings a tear to my eye! Leave to his own creative play though, and he'll build a spaceship every time.

And, yes, I find the stockers at Walmart are terrible for the most part. You ask a Target employee for something, and they jump. Ask at Walmart, <blank stare>.

at the risk of going off topic, i find target's IT much better. you can actually search on target.com for a particular item (except when on clearance). it will tell you whether the stores nearest your house still have them. so naturally if the website tells me that the store has 3 sets left and when i got there, there are none...i will just ask the store employee.

(and when you happen to have the set in hand) the price scanner in the store will also tell you if the remaining sets are kept in the aisle or in storage. so you can pretty much tell if they ran out or if they "horde" them in storage. :D

also target employees always re-stock items early morning or late night, so you won't have those sets sitting misplaced in the kitchenware section unlike walmart. no need to go scour around the store hunting down the last available set!

FYI - If anyone missed this sale at Walmart and was hoping to pick the set up at a discount, the laws of supply and demand are in full swing over at Ebay. 7094 + shipping is going for USD 75-85. I wouldn't be surprised to see prices continue down farther either, considering there are like 6 pages of results for "LEGO 7094" at the moment.

A large part of this is likely due to the fact that Cashback has dropped to 8% from 25-30%. Before, this set was going for ~$115 shipped with 25-30% Cashback and with 8% at ~90 shipped, it is basically the same.

I haven't used eBay in months. What's "Cashback"?

I have a friend who works for Paypal. She told me that there is a system that if you search for the products you want to buy from eBay through a browser like MSN, you can get a percentage off your purchase. Buy It Now only, though. For more details, eBay is offering a full set of instructions on their page.

Quite correct. You use Microsoft's search engine (Live) and type a search word such as "wii" and, if the Cashback program is active, you will see a ebay.com Cashback link at the top. This is purely done by Microsoft, eBay/PayPal just gets the business while Microsoft pays the Cashback money. But yes, it only works on BIN auctions and there are a few terms to follow. Overall, a great program, especially when it is at 30%.
