Castle Fusion Figs

Post by the enigma that is badger »

Like I said when I first joined, I love building standard Castle figs, but what's even more fun is trying to combine my love of Castle, Space, and modern combat in interesting ways that still seem cohesive.

Here are two good examples of what I mean:

They're both really cool, but I have to say that I'm really attracted to the first fig. I've been thinking about combining the crown knights with the new British soldiers ever since they came out. Now that you've done something similar, I think I'll go ahead with my plan!

btw: does that crown knight have custom legs or can you buy those?

Glad you like them!

Here are two others:

They're dark blue Han Solo legs with gunbelt

These are nicely done!

I would best describe this as pre-steam punk... or a pre-flight variation of steampunk emphasizing gunpowder and armor with a bit of magic/fantasy thrown in and leaning away from mechanically complex contraptions. That said, I could also see this as a gas powered and 'grounded' variation of steampunk.

Technology for a genre like this would probably be best limited to WWI and prior. Maybe basic air balloons would fit if you really need aircraft.

Would be nice to see a semi-mechanized siege turtle APC, an automatic crossbow, and perhaps an absurdly large mortar/cannon. :)

Actually, there are a lot of examples in the real world where one technology is introduced into a vanishing style. I like the idea, and the figs look great!

What is that second sword and can I get it anywhere? Or is it a BA prototype?

A couple of really great figs here, badger! I think my favorite is the guy with the sword. He looks sweet.

It's a prototype of the BrickArms Plasma Blade. While most folks seem to be most interested in that item in trans-colors, I personally love it in solid silver and black. Makes for an exotic but still solid bladed accessory!

I like that first fig. Personally I like combining castle and pirates, as well as the Chinese from Adventurers and ninja. Vikings with guns vs Wokou anyone?

It hadn't occurred to me until you said that but it looks like an upgraded version of a double-bladed Katar.

I read comics, and the combination of the soldier with the guns, your modern castle fusion, reminded me of a story arch in the comic books Fables.

Very well done.

Hey Badger, this is a very neat way of combining two different themes, and it actually looks pretty good! I think my favourite would be the second picture; that looks like it could fit into some sort of Medieval world.

Very nice, certainly something quite different.

Thanks for the kind words, all!

I'm a huge Fables fan, and while these figs predate the War and Pieces story arch, it was very cool to see some ideas similar to these figs in the comic!
