Weekly Set Review: Maiden's Cart

I've really liked this set since the first time I saw it about a year ago. I ended up with one form Ebay for super cheap and am very pleased with it.

I didn't like how the guard sat in front of the maiden though, so I altered the set, even adding a secret compartment.

I am a huge fan of the crusaders so that and of course the fairly non-military aspect of the set is always a big draw for me,
not to mention the awsome white cone hat!

A nice little set. Other than the Maiden minifig, there really isn't anything special here. Still, it has a nice assortment of bricks, and two decent minifigs. Moreover, the construction of the set is far superior to what we Castle fans have had to endure for the past few years.


Nothing special, but 100x better than KKII

This is a great set. Simple construction with mostly basic parts. A maiden (with a white hat, no less), a cart, a horse and a guard. Nothing more you could ask for.

My dad snagged this set for me when I was little. I don't know from where, but I assume from the BX on the airforce base.

I don't mind this set. It is simple, but sometimes the simple sets have a certain charm to them (like http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?S=6010-1 )

It seems later similar sets like the kings carriage try to cram too much in, in fact if you think about it most of the sets we hold dear like the blacksmith shop are very basic designs.

This is one of the sets I've had on my wish list since childhood, and I only recently added it to my collection; it now holds the place of honor as one of my prize pieces, MISB (I acquired another for building). I rate it a 9/10 for sheer playability (not to mention the first brown chest). The plotlines drawn on my bedroom floor would have benefitted greatly from this set: a potential Marian, Rowena, Rebecca, or any number of others. My civilian collection was meagre, and this would have been treasured then as I treasure it now. It is a true gem from the greatest year (in my opinion) of Classic Castle production... though 1984 is a close second.

It's the only original and official (I mean Non-Legends an non-custom) Castle set that I own. In my opinion, the very elegant shape of the cart makes it as cute as the Clikits trademark girls.

I think this set is very nice,

The cart has a nice,simple design to it and would be a great way to stock up on some of great knights and white hoarses..

and with a little creativity,you could switch it around a bit and make a nice little trade cart,though you might need to use a few of your own Lego pieces.

Overall I think the set has a very nice,simple design and has good playability,now I just wish I owned a copy or two of it

Got the hat/maiden ages ago but only the cart itself last week... I was pleasantly surprised by how much there was to the design. The grey legs on the guard are the sets weakest feature...

This is a set that I am currently on the look out for at a reasonable price. Does anyone know how rare this set is compared to other sets from the 80s and early 90s? From what I have seen this set seems extremely rare on ebay. What is an acceptable price for this set? I had seen it listed on ebay for $35.00 US. I wonder if I should hold out for a cheaper price because I have a feeling I might be able to get it even cheaper.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, this is a neat little set but outside of the maiden there isn't anything extraordinary about the piece selection.
@Nicker: Don't spend $35 for it! Depending on how complete you need this set, you can get elements of it on bricklink for $10 or less. You can get the figs and instruction (if you need original instructions instead of the free ones you can find online) for that $10-ish cost and most of the rest of the parts are fairly inexpensive and common. Perhaps you can even build it from you collection already.

This was a great cart in its day. It still is pretty good but looks kind of dated. [the easy to break roof is a pain]
It was one of the first castle sets that I got.
The cart came with one of the first treasure chests so for many years my knights used to fight over this cart and the maiden.

So this set gets bonus points from me just because it was always a major part of my castle battles.

I really like this set. Even though the maiden is the main focus, I enjoy filling my towns with various carts. It is also desirable because this set was originally a European only release. So it is hard to find in America.

It must have been later released in the US, because my sister got this set (and maybe that's what you implied). I think it's a nice little set... and if you are into collecting Lego horses like my sister apparently was, it's a good one...

Some Classic-Castle sets were not available at most US stores but were in the Shop at Home catalog. 6067 Guarded Inn is a good example of this. While the Maiden's Cart was not in retail stores near me, it could have been in other stores or in the SAH catalog.

Ahh, that must be it. I remember my siblings and I would go through the Lego catalogs all the time, and when birthdays or Christmas came around my Grandfather would place orders...

I purchased this neat little set off Bricklink when I purchased a 375.
I absolutely love any little civilian carts or carts in general.

The minifigs were just a little thing on the side for me
Unlike others when I open the top on it though,it has never come off, so maybe other people have more
problems than me with it . I also love any civilians or classic castle minifigures so that is a plus for me.
A bad thing with mine was,since it was so old,one of the square flags connectors snapped off ,but luckily I had a replacement for it.
The one kinda bad thing for me is that it seems off balance for some reason,anyone else think it is?
I paid 12.00 dollars for it,so to me it is worth the price,even if the original price was probably much smaller.

I give it a 8/10
