Erecting a runestone
Erecting a runestone
Hi, I'm not very active on this forum but I thought I would share this MOC with you.
Runestones were erected for many different reasons, it could be a memory for someone that had died, in battle or on a travel, or it could be a declaration of conversion too Christianity. Some people even put up runestones to brag about how good they were, e.g. like this: "Vigmund had this stone carved in memory of himself, the cleverest of men." But a lot of runestones were also erected besides bridges to tell who had made them:
The runestone would have looked so much better if there really was runes on it, I know . I can't print decals otherwise I would have made one. Ah well, you will have to use your imagination
More and bigger pictures can be found on my Brickshelf when the gallery has been moderated: LINK
Thanks for watching!

Very nice. It's not overly elaborate, but there are some nice details - for example, the dug up dirt around the hole, and the fact that the stone has shape underground. I also like the way you chopped off the bridge at the edge of the scene.

Very interesting idea. Runestones! It does look very nice. I liked the fact it really looks like they are placing it into a hole.

That's a very good Menhir, Etzelix!
Asterix references aside, this is very well done.

...and that's how Equestria was made!

Agreed. I really like it. It made me think of Asterix and Obelix as well..

I really like this little MOC. The runestone is a great idea! The viking theme never gets enough attention. I like the action of the men erecting the stone.
Re: Erecting a runestone
A well thought-out and well posed little MOC. Congratulations!
I can't help but admire your torso, face and hair/headgear selection for the figs. They look excellent.

I love the way you did the slab of stone, it looks so well done. Yes, decals would have made it nicer, but I see no reason why this isn't a very well done MOC without. :]

Re: Erecting a runestone
Finally got around to checking this out, I also liked the placement of the figures, I especially got a kick out of the guy who isn't doing anything except telling the other guys what to do (no, a little more to the left...)
I also really liked your technique for doing the planking on the bridge, it really makes the planks stand out a bit, I may use that sometime.
I also liked the two crows sitting in the top of the tree just hanging out.

Re: Erecting a runestone
OK, Etzel, you're number 3...
I really like this creation. The landscaping is very well done. The reeds along the water are a nice touch and work well. The dug up ground is well done too. Maybe they should have a shovel laying around?
The tree seems a bit spindley to me. It could use a bit of beefing up, but that's the only real compliant I've got.
Hugin and Munin are a nice touch. The bridge (dock?) is also nice and the guy on it too. The facial expressions of the guys moving the stone are also right on. It even looks like the foreman is gesturing to say "come on guys, just a little more" Oh, one more complaint, I don't like how the viking helmet looks without horns...

Neat little MOC. Like how you used the grunting faces for the guys putting in the runestone.

Re: Erecting a runestone
This is a nice creation... Two things I really like are those birds up in the tree and how the bridge has only one rail. I actually like that the runestone doesn't have a sticker or anything. Besides Lego revolves around creativity and imagination, right?
