Gonore Castle

Post by DJimBo »

Hi folks,

I'm new in this forum and I thought it would be nice to post a new topic in which I would tell something about myself and about my best creation.

About myself

I'm Jim. I live in the netherlands and I'm allmost 16 years old. My english isn't allways perfect but I do my best... I build most of the time castle moc's but I also make some city moc's. I use Classic-Casle.com a lot because I make my own decals(see my avatar). I often use Mocpages.com and Brickset.com

This is my account on Mocpages:

About my best creation

This is Gonore Castle. My biggest Moc so far.

Image(sorry for the little picture, check link below to see a bigger one.)

My homy medieval village. :D
It contains four self designed houses, self designed decals, really much legos and a lot of fun!
every single thing is made out of LEGO. except for the decals off course
If you want to see more and bigger pictures, just check this link.

There are really some nice ones so please check out and comment/rate. I really appreciate any feedback because I am going to make it three times as big as this, so every advice is welcome.

Hello and welcome to Classic-Castle. Your English is quite understandable, and I think you'll find that people here are very understanding of those for whom English is a second language (or third, or fourth, etc.). There are many such members here, so I hope you'll feel right at home.

I looked through the pictures of your MOC, and I was very impressed by the amount of minifig life that you included. Sometimes it seems that large creations end up being very stark, but yours gives the impression of a bustling village. This was really well done.

One thing that you might want to think about doing is disguising some of the BURPs in the harbour area and in the castle wall. You might want to add some dark bley slopes here and there to accomplish this, but you could also toss in some green, brown, or light bley plates or slopes to give a bit of variety. At the very least, I'd suggest covering up all of the hollow studs that are currently showing on the BURPs. Personally, I find that because of their difference they really stand out. Then, my eye is drawn towards them, and that's not where the focus should be.

One other suggestion is going to require more bricks to accomplish. Right now, the water is one plate higher than a lot of the rest of the ground. I see that you've tried to mitigate the appearance of this by placing green or brown plates and bricks around the water (as in this picture), but it still looks like the water is higher than the rest of the ground. So, if you've got enough brick, you might want to consider building up all the areas that are not water.

Those are my two humble suggestions, and they're only suggestions. I think what you have so far is great--as I said above--and I look forward to seeing this village when it grows to three times its size.

Looks good. A very cool MOC. I'd second the work of raising the water to be lower than the rest of it. Really does a lof for its looks.

A fun creation. I enjoyed everything going on and the custom minifigures you have made!

You really did a great job on this! And your English is pretty understandable. I would third raising the land around the water as it stands out quite a bit being level to the ground. The little stream that runs the blacksmiths mill also looks nice. I can see why this took you two years.

Welcome to Classic Castle! I took a look at some of your mocs, and I was really impressed with what I saw. You have a unique building style that I really like; my favorite moc was the Crossed Swords tavern. I could not help but notice the shoulder pauldrons on one of your custom Black Cross figures. What are those?

Well that are my custom shoulder pauldrons made out of lego elements :D
I was inspired by those shoulder pauldrons from brickforge but they were quite expensive and I thought they were a little too big, so I just started thinking of how I could make one of my own... it started with this, I don't know if these weren't done before by someone else:

My other technique uses only this piece:

The funny thing about this is that you just can make them for les than € 0,50!!! (I live in the netherlands so I use euros, but I'm sure it won't be expensive anywhere else)

This is the newer version I used for my castle minifigs:

I hope it will help you.

Well, I'll take a stab at giving you some feedback.

The large tan ground area has a few pebbles on it, but I think would truly look much better if it were all, or mostly, made of different colored round or square small bricks, giving it a larger color variation. The squared L-shaped ends of the blue wall look a bit bleak, perhaps adding some details built into the wall (decorations, archer slits, etc) would break them up a bit. I love the net holding all the barrels into the wagon. I love the little water wheel by the pasture, but can't quite see what it's set up to run. That's a nice looking turkey laying out on a table, but I don't see anybody eating it, so maybe include a dog taking a bite? The well looks pretty cool. If you can get one, you could put a different head on your drunk that looks, well, more drunk. I love some of the finer decorative architectural details on house of the king's counsellor. Perhaps change the staircase out for a brick-built one with a bit more detail. Very nice little sign outside the blacksmith's. Does the portcullis leading to the training camp for the order of the black cross actually open to anywhere? It seems at first glance it's a portcullis but there's no tower to let it raise. Maybe it's just a door, but it looks like it's clipped in on both sides. Does it open? I like the windows and wooden beams running through the blacksmith's. The printing of worn down walls you used for the cloister don't seem to match the shiny looking red roof. Walls are run-down, roof looks brand new. Did they just re-roof/paint? If so show them working on it, if not maybe change the roof out to match the walls or vice versa. C-3PO made me laugh, I like them visiting. You could add some reeds around the area the frogs like, for them to hide in. Personally, I like the look of the outside of your harbor tower, but I'd add some bricks around the inside of the vertical 'wall' portions to hide the headlights that are holding them up.
